PC PC Gamers - Whatcha playin?

I like playing a variety of games, but mainly on play 1 atm. I normally play WoW, most of the time for PVP...since I don't really have the time to invest in serious raiding, and can't seem to find a guild that all works around the same hours as me. But I enjoy playing RPG games a ton, the mass effect series, DA 1, Deus Ex, etc. I used to be a pretty avid fps player, and actually played with a dude that I went to school with that was ranked #1 for a few days in Cod4 days. Don't worry, I was no where near as good, just kind of cool to be around someone who ranks that high on ladder. I suck at moba games but aim to play for awhile one day and learn how to do it right lol. Right now I guess i'm an ARAM hero in League, and suck way too bad to play dota :P. maybe heroes of the storm will be casual enough so that I can learn.
 
I've been playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl lately. I played Call of Pripyat first, which was an awesome game. SoC was the first in the series and it really shows, it's pretty buggy and missing some of the gameplay features that were added/polished for CoP. I'm trying to make time for EvE because I really love the game but as a casual gamer it takes me literally weeks to make the least bit of progress
 
I would like to try diablo 3 when I have time. I've played classic games like starcraft, warcraft, battle realms, and red alert. Any good game that you can recommend? thank in advance

I actually was playing Cod 4 the other day. the graphics arent that bad still, been a while since I played it.

You rock for sharing this, I had the first two games for PS3 but never got to play them and then lost everything, getting it free for PC means I'll finally get to play it! :D

I remember when devs released free map packs because they loved the game and the community that played it.

fuckin' Epic was sick in the back of the day.

although, games still offer good value for fun hours and the prices haven't gone up much so DLC is just the inflation...

wish i could tell ya about end game in depth but i never played till max level =/ 3 hyped mmos launched this year and as much as i wanted, none kept my interest.

i recall a vlog about archeage where the kid mentioned to get the best gear you need material that had a rare drop rate (like ridiculously low drop rate), and other way to get it besides loot involved paying for it with real $ in the cash shop =/

i say that to say this, in regards to thujone's post, not sure which launchers considered "bloatware" and dlc, these things don't bother me. steam, uplay, and origin i never had a problem with, i find it convenient being able to access my library of games, cloud saving, uninstall/reinstall, and never having to worry about losing a disc or cd key. for dlc, i feel games i pay full price are worth it, and it's cool to have new content months later. pre order bonus dlc is lame as fuck tho.

BUT what does piss me off in gaming these days is free 2 play which more often than not turns out to be pay 2 win or fucking grind fest to keep up.

btw borderlands pre sequel in 2 days... anyone else playing at launch ?

the problem is distribution platforms have done nothing to address the lack of consumer rights when it comes to buying media. in fact, the situation has gotten worse because you no longer own a game you buy, you're paying for a license to use that can arbitrarily be revoked. this keeps us locked into an arrangement where we're forced to accept every and any ToS changes that Valve chooses to make if we want to keep our access rights to the games we paid good money for. and yes, Valve has already taken advantage of its privileged position to bind our hands in the last ToS update in... 2012 IIRC (the one that prevents users from filing a class action lawsuit).

So Valve has literally committed textbook coersion, updating the ToS in a way that protects them from the typical repercussions of coersive behaviour, therefore giving them the defacto right to again act in such a manner at any point in the future. So this is really the root of why other game companies are jumping on the bandwagon and coming up with their own distribution platforms. It's not an attempt to compete with Steam, because that would be insane, it's just an attempt to use a coersive ToS to gain some measure of control over you and keep your wallet tied to their networks.

there's no issue with DLCs when they're expansions but there is a major issue when paying for a DLC is the only way to get bug fixes that should have been released as maintenance patches for the original software that was already paid for.
 
i totally didn't even think of consumer rights when i posted my reply. in fact i do recall reading some discussions/posts about that very thing sometime a year or two ago...

ya bring up some good points about ownership of software/consumer rights and being forced to accept tos or lose access to your library of games. damn, and i was just thinking well i don't have to deal with "insert disc 4' enter "cd key" type shit :\

this goes beyond just gaming software. reminds me when i was looking into purchasing photoshop and was surprised to find i couldn't just buy it, but had to purchase a monthly subscription for a licences to use it.
 
i still use steam because of convenience and it's the only way to play cs, but i'm also still waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop on us all
 
Going to play The Sims 4 or Garrysmod in a bit.. Havent decided. Once Pink Floyd's The Wall is done I'll have made up my mind :)
 
yea that's where i was coming from regarding the likes of steam services, convenience.

just loaded up borderlands pre-sequel and played for an hour. already having a blast, can't wait to play more tomorrow.

... and finished first play through of pre-sequel. 24 hours played, with an hour or so on side missions. now true vault hunter mode, other characters. super fun co-op shooter, well worth the $$ imo.

I'm mostly actually watching other people play games lately. Anyone else a fan of watching Lets Plays on Youtube? I've been watching a bunch of Space Station 13, Space Rangers HD, and Dwarf Fortress lately, along with some other random stuff like UnReal World (not part of the Unreal FPS series, it's a survival rogue-like, really awesome game if you like survival games).

Kinda unsure what I want to play myself at the moment, having one of those times where I've bought a bunch of new games and have a bunch of old games I want to revisit so have too much to choose from and can't just pick one to dive into. Right now it's a toss up between a lot of stuff: Risen 2, Gothic 2, Hearts of Iron III, Victoria II, Patrician IV, Tropico 4, or jumping back into Arcanum, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Startopia or Dwarf Fortress. I hate when I can't make my mind up what to play, because I'm not the type to like just jumping into different games for half an hour each - I like settling on a game and playing it for days straight until I need a breather from it.

Probably going to jump into GTA: SA or Saints Row III while I decide or just go back to some LP videos. PS there's some good deals today: Just Cause 1 and 2, Far Cry 1, 2 and 3, the Mount & Blade series, and a bunch of others are all really cheap on offer today. Just picked up the Far Cry & Just Cause collections myself for like 14 euros.

Steam sales always end up ruining my bank balance, I tend to pirate things and try them out first like that and only buy them if I like them, but before I got my current job I had to really like a game to justify actually buying it - now in the last few months my Steam library has gone from like 90 to 226 games just from sales alone o.o

if i watch any play through on youtube its just a few minutes to see if the game interests me, or watch some stream on twitch.

last game i played was the last post, borderlands presequel, finished normal and true vault mode with like 50 hours of gameplay but now im bored of it and waiting for dragon age inquisition next tuesday.

i enjoyed far cry 3 immensely, have fun. was looking forward to 4 but i'll wait for it on sale next year, never buying a ubisoft game at fullprice/launch again... not after watch dogs and assassins creed unity fuck up.

oh and supposed leaked specs for amd 390x... hopefully next year make the jump to 4k =D
 
been playing Europa Universalis IV lately, there's so much crap to keep track of i'm still trying to wrap my head around it
