Can this work?

I have a bunch of 5mg diazepam pills and I need to be able to take smaller doses for my taper. I was thinking about crushing up a bunch of them and putting them in PG. I've never made a PG solution before but what is the chance this will even work with all the binders? If I turn it to dust enough will the insoluble binders just float in there or will the binders make it not go into solution?

I'm just trying to figure out an easier way to do this. I need to make cuts in half a milligram increments or I'm never going to get off of these pills and the chances of getting my doctor to give me 2mg pills are pretty slim so I need to figure something else out. Even if I got the 2mg pills, I know all too well that a quarter of a pill may have next to nothing and another quarter have half the pill's dose so this would still be ideal I think if I could get it to work.

If it matters, I have both the high quality Teva/Ivax press and the really crappy crumbly Mylan pills both plus Betapams which are much larger and probably would be the biggest hassle.

If anyone has any other suggestions that might work better, they're more than welcome in this thread too.

While alprazolam powder seems to be pretty easy to get, the same can't be said for diazepam or I'd just do that.

What's the weight of a 5mg diazepam pill? Do you have an accurate enough scale that you could just powder the pills and dose the powder by weight?

Diazepam should dissolve into PG like any other benzo, the binders won't (& likely they won't disintegrate as well as they would in water), so you should make sure they're really finely milled before adding any glycol.

I do have a scale. Its a cheap little Gemini-20 but it would do just fine for weighing out the powder and splitting it that way.

I figured that making a solution would be more consistent since it seems like pills aren't evenly distributed which is one of the reasons I hate trying to cut down large pills. Some of the doses end up being weaker than they should be and then you get the full dose later on and it causes interdose withdrawal which is highly unpleasant.

It could well be that the Mylan pills just suck though. I have been back to 10mg since I was given the Tevas and now I am taking the betas and just storing the Tevas so I haven't had a chance to see if the Tevas or betas have the same issue. I've had some of my Mylans where I didn't get anything out of them all day but when I was switched to the Tevas, I didn't have a single day of withdrawal so...

It sounds like you're saying that this is a situation where it might or might not work, depending on how well adhered the diazepam is to the binders? If I shake it every time for a few minutes before I use it, would whatever gets stuck distribute like a suspension you think or would I run the risk of having the same issue where I end up having dosage variations?

Thanks sekio

I would just get a pill cutter; but best of luck in your taper off diazepam <3

I have a pill cutter but 5mg pills = 1.25mg cuts and that's too steep for me. That's also assuming that a) I can cut them into equal quarters and b) that the diazepam is consistent throughout the entire pill.

Trying to cut them any further just turns them to dust anyway at which point I might as well just crush them and weigh out exact amount of the powder to take lol.

Thanks for the good luck wishes though. I'm about to throw in the towel for real if I can't make this any smoother because I can't handle anymore hell.

Well I have a Gemini-20 which is good for +/- 5mg which would go perfect with the powder. I don't know why I never thought to do that until sekio mentioned it... Goes to show how low functioning my brain is through all of this.

I wish that it was as easy to get diazepam powder as it is to get alprazolam powder, it would be a non-issue if I had a connect for the former instead of the latter. Alprazolam and I don't have a great working relationship. Hits too hard and wears off top fast. Can't get clonazepam powder either and while diclazepam could be useful, I'd rather not rely on an RC benzo if I don't have to. I have Etizolam and flubromazepam for emergency purposes but really my taper has to be diazepam, nordiazeoam, or clonazepam.
