can anybody recommend a decent reasonably priced safe?

They're allowed to get into a safe any way possible if they suspect illegal activity n have a warrant to search the property. So thus a safe is really only useful for protecting against theft or to keep things away from children.

The safe was mainly to stop people in the flat peeping in stuff yeah I know common sense says having a safe means you got something worth nicking but anything that important wouldn't be going in there.

anyway how did this get onto forcing entry into peoples boxes haha

Did I just spot a scene from Human traffic? That was the first DVD I ever bought. I scrimped and saved for a bit until I could afford a Proline 1000, the first DVD player under £200. Great days. If I'd just been doing the day job, and not my cash-in-hand hustles, I'd probably have starved.

Those cheap ones you can get from DIY stores with the electronic lock, the same as the ones you often get in hotel rooms would be fine to hide things from prying eyes. If someone wanted to break into it they could but they would have to smash the things up to do so. I used to have one to keep 'things' in but I've progressed to a biscuit tin in the garage :D
