really did not take you for a metal head summer :)

http://youtu.be/TiC8sjicHRg Monster Magnet-The Right stuff

Basically all I listen to is (nu) metal because I am an angsty teenager (for another 2 weeks at least). After my 20th I guess I should start listening to more mature stuff like, I don't know... Michael Buble or some shit? Or something more in tune with my girliness like Taylor Swift.

Two weeks until your sell-by?

My God. Enjoy this fortnight, as soon thereafter you will become a heartless witch. It doesn't happen all at once, but gradually. By twenty-five you're hardened and ravaged, and nevermore shall ye serve as a poet's muse.

^ I actually believe that shit. No, really.

Music? Oh, sorry.

Shane MacGowan & The Popes - Nancy Whiskey

Yo La Tengo - Nothing to Hide

Yo La Tengo - More Stars Than There Are in Heaven

<3

That be a tune <3

these guys are generally awesome. extr apoints for a cover of Kraftwerk:
Balanescu quartet - Model

I also have a fondness for "classical" covers of songs that are most assuredly not generally considered "classical" <3

Shane MacGowan & The Popes - Church of the Holy Spook

But I ruined my life by drinking, bad wives
Taking pills and cursing
Rock and Roll you crucified me
Left me all alone
I never should have turned my back on
The old folks back home

Perhaps my fave Popes track <3

(on a side note, the popes remind me very strongly of a very, very naughty shambles time in my life when i was knocking off an... acquaitance's irish missus when he was in prison. the day he got out he knocked on my door and attempted to twat me. was - by far - the weakest punch i have ever experienced. i accidentally punched myself in the nose last night and did more damage. (this is the same fellla who was hospitalised with priapism after injecting his cock with cocaine for context.) i take no pleasure in being a wrong 'un but rarely have i got away so lightly as on that occasion. she played the popes a lot whilst we were getting wrecked and fucking - that was the connection, in case y'all missed it)

I remember hearing about the coc(k)aine guy. Classic. :D

Wish I met women who wanted to have sex to the sound of The Popes. I only ever get the ones who put on something self-consciously 'erotic', like the time I made my then-girlfriend turn off This Is Hardcore by Pulp because it was fucking my mojo over something rotten.

That particular lass was mad for The Popes and Shaun MacGowan in general. She was Irish, dunno if that's a universal thing amognst Irish women cos is the only one I've been in that particular situation with. I suspect it is less than universal, more a bit of a cliche. In this case it was also the actual case though. However, my most recent ladyfriend was of Irish decent and the album guaranteed to turn her all gooey on me was... well... anything either of us played... but head and shoulders above others was...

Lovage - Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By

... vying for top spot in my all-time fave Mike Patton side-projects <3

(and not just for the instashag angle... although that helped admittedly)

Yo La Tengo - Here To Fall

Yo La Tengo - I'm on My Way

Yo La Tengo - And the Glitter is Gone

(if y'all click on no others from this post click on that one for it is the very bestest of the best - and the others ain't exactly shite neither)

Yo La Tengo - Today is the Day

Smashing Pumpkins - Today (live '93)

Yes. That is a segue.

<3

Ooh, a Shambles with music to listen to! Yay. :D

Two decades later, Spin is reflecting on all of the sweet goodness that came from 1994. The year gave music fans so many great albums, including Weezer‘s ’Blue Album,’ Pearl Jam‘s ’Vitalogy’ and R.E.M.‘s ’Monster.’
Unfortunately, it also brought the death of Kurt Cobain on April 5. And for this particular remembrance, who better to chat with than the one and only Coolio?
Listening to Nirvana‘s ‘Heart Shaped Box,’ Coolio tells Spin, “Man, he was soulful. He was unique. He was insightful. And his music was very detailed. When he wrote, if he was trying to make you see something, it was very easy to see it.”
When he first heard the news of Cobain’s death, Coolio says he “was mad, like, ‘Why you gotta do that before I do a song with you?’” Taking the conversation to a deeper, more controversial level, the rapper calls out Cobain’s “people.”
They didn’t see that s–t coming? C’mon! Put the motherf—er on Thorazine; dose him up so he can stay alive. You know, people who do drugs get so pressured by people who don’t that they get depressed. Society and their families make them feel like shit about their habits. A lot of times they’re not hurting nobody. They don’t go out and cause trouble. They don’t miss work. F—, man. Let that s–t roll. I’ve had my ups and downs with that. I’m not on drugs right now, but I’m not gonna sit here and say I won’t ever do drugs. I’ll never do cocaine again … but I haven’t tried everything.
After wishing Cobain’s people encouraged his drug habit more just to keep him alive, Coolio talks about Elton John, Boyz II Men, R. Kelly and Insane Clown Posse. Read the entire interview here.

Coolio's views on Elton John, Boyz II Men, R Kelly and ICP?!? Count me in ;)

Smashing Pumpkins - Bury Me (live, Reading '92)

Only band I know of who can manage to play ahead of the beat together with a drummer so out of it he somehow manages to keep up whilst also being half a beat behind. From when the Pumpkins could do no wrong. Solo/riff towards the end after he changes gee-tars = pure gold <3

(also, as a minor point, the ben stiller intro/outro comments are beyond painful in a fairly humorous way - "Like Lollapalooza only with fish 'n' chips" =D)

Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock (live '93)

Performance <3
