Well, I'd always heard LSD described as a young person's drug and that over-30s should steer clear. And a mate of mine took some, aged 30, and didn't like it. So that only reinforced it in my mind.

Not that any has crossed my path recently anyway, though. I'm out of the scene where I could score it. It's mostly just weed, sometimes -- more often than is good for me -- H and very occasionally coke these days; but my Partner-in-Crime is a bit of a cocaine snob, and always moans that it isn't as good as the stuff she used to get. And MDMA when I can get hold of it. And distant memories of Valium that worked -- last batch I bought didn't even touch the sides, to the point where I didn't even offer any of it to PiC.

I'm half-thinking of taking a few days off work and going and visiting Lauren up North, in the hope of possibly scoring something more interesting. I'm owed some leave anyway since the trip down South never happened.

Oh, and talking of growing out of stuff, I grew out of a mortgage .....

I took some for my thirtieth birthday. My thirty-first too. Oh, and my thirty-second. AL-LAD for my thirty-third.

The idea that it's a young person's drug probably stems from the fact it used to be so cheap. That and the cartoon tabs. I think you'd enjoy a thirtysomething trip, Julie.

Really? I wasn't trying to chat you up, but I'd have put you at a similar age to me. :D

You definitely carry off a dress far better than I do. Slap as well, although if a skilled girl applies it, I'm apparently beautiful enough to get several whispered offers of casual sex from men and women alike at the same staid Chorltonite indie party.

Believe.

That whole thing about acid being a kiddydrug really annoys me and always has. As Sammy said, it's surely cos it was traditionally the only drug that could be bought for pocketmoney prices (and bought in bulk at that) and also happened to mostly feature cartoon artwork. Also, it makes you giggle a lot and see things in what is broadly termed a "childlike" way. All that is true but skips over the fact that it can - and will - rip you a new one several times over at times too. Acid is no kiddydrug. Not by a very, very long chalk. Is a thing of beauty for the world to behold no matter what age the world happens to be (but ideally should be in the adult realm - and the more "adult" the better).

I'd never actually heard of that.. in my mind I always associated it with ageing hippies. I was massively fascinated by psychedelics from a young age (like, 8, or something.. blame music) but wasn't confident/comfortable with the idea of trying them until my lateish 20s. Am sure I wouldn't have appreciated them the same if I'd tried them at 16 etc.

Likewise. infact i dunno what smoking DMT in my mid teens would have been like. actually the same i expect but fuck knows what my reaction would have been to it

I discovered psyches in my mid-late teens and got the piss ripped from all sides for not having thrashed the arse out of acid before my balls dropped. I happened to discover 'em right around the time they became dirt cheap and flooded the nation like never before (apparently they did quite a bit of that for folk a couple years older than me but never did around my way and seemed to be far more universal by the time I caught up). I doubt I could've made sense of acid at the kinda ages most of my peers apparently started taking it. Mind you, neither could they.

Hallalúya! =D <3

Well it seems I've wasted the last 10 yrs of my life dropping acid and dancing with middle age hippies around campfires. :(

Who knew a placebo could have such profound visuals and effect?

To be honest I have never heard of LSD being a young persons drug. The 40 something architects and designers I met at our last doof obviously failed to get the memo too

I think the "acid = kiddydrug" thing is quite specific to British (and culturally nearby environs) culture to be honest. More specifically of council estate culture. Acid cost 50p per tab when I (and many of us here I suspect) were yoofs so was - quite literally - all most kiddies could afford. Is this a good use for acid? Most certainly not but was the way it was "back in the day". Nowadays acid costs a tenner a tab (outside of more traditional circles) so that image is probably not quite as prominent as it once was. For those of us UK (and culturally related envorons) folk of "a certain age" (and of a certain mentality) it was always seen as a cheap thrill for kiddies. Never was to me - LSD is and will always be King of All the Drugs for many reasons - but there definitely was that mentality not so very long back.

To be fair, "doof" (doof-doof-doof-doof, etc) does make more sense than "rave" which always sounds kinda wanky. I tend to stick with the term "party" but with the freedom that implies y'all can call 'em whatever you like as long as you do it in style <3
