Had this discussion with the ATHEIST husband and he said to post this. So not sure where this is going now. but he did say not all music is spiritual, but he isn't coming on here to argue.

So basically this thread is about Spiritual Lyrics. Not spiritual music, since music is inherently spiritual.. Even the shittiest pop song only has "less" soul than the EPIC UBER GOD STATUS SAWNGZ.

Griegs "Morning Mood" is some of the most spiritual classical music.

I'm afraid I don't agree with you that "all music is inherently spiritual" (apart from if you're talking about the fact that it's all made by human beings who are all inherently spiritual).

But the music itself - "spiritual" music I see as harmonious, uplifting, and high-consciousness. So Heavy Metal and most Rock I see as anti-spiritual since it's destructive and harmful to the consciousness/energy system - though despite of this I can enjoy it, it's a good release for aggression, among other things.

This (classical) kind of music is ultimately the most spiritual or uplifting (I find) if you focus on the music and not the lyrics or performer. Though this can add a lot as well, like seeing Elvis perform "If I can dream", the performer needs to be spiritual as well.

Now please don't freak out because I have the nerve to disagree.

actually, ninae, you're wrong. what is spirtual to one person, might not be spiritual to another. so, it has nothing to do with the music, it has to do with what each individual finds spiritual, and their own definition of spritual. ass kicking rock and roll lifts me the fuck up when i need it to. i don't believe in god, but i find nature to be extremely spiritual for me, personally. so music that paints a natural landscape in my mind gets me all high on life n shit.

Though I don't agree with your opinion about music. I know what you mean about that kind of music can be spiritually uplifing, too, in an indirect kind of way. But I don't believe the music is spiritual in itself or represents the perfect harmony, love, and beauty of the spiritual world.

Getting an emotional high is not the same as spiritual upliftment (although it can be just as enjoyable). So I get what you mean, just partly disagree.

i still disagree, it depends on you what you find spiritual. it doesn't have to be uplifting to be spiritual.

I have to agree with Laika and ChickenScratch by the way. I know what you mean when you ask for spiritual songs, but I don't agree with your definition of spiritual music. I think it's completely dependent on what one considers to be spiritual.
I take this quote to explain my point:

See for me the song I linked above is highly spiritual - though it is heavy metal - because of the lyrics but also because of the haunting way it was constructed and because it makes me think about Dimebag Darrell, death in general and the value of life. So if for me this song is spiritual, I think just about any song can be to a certain person. So this is in a way just a "post songs that have a higher meaning for you"-thread. Unless you didn't mean "spiritual" but rather "religious" as that changes things, then the lyrics become the deciding factor...

That is how you view spirituality, and higher consciousness/positive energy is very much a part of my spirituality too.

But Ninae you have to understand some people do not share that spirituality, they embrace a darker way. Think of it as Star Wars, the Jedi and the Sith. Two sides of the force:

The dark side of the Force who were dedicated opponents of the Force. The dark side represented corruption and a disregard for the natural order of the universe. The dark side was considered the domain of the Sith, whom the Jedi attempted to destroy in order to keep the Force in balance.

People can be spiritual and embrace a negative energy.

I think people here revolt at this thread you started which is disappointing to see, and 'closed minded as fuck'. Although you did title your thread (for the Grace of God) which kind of does signify you were talking about a certain kind of spirituality. The world is a venomous place Ninae. Best to stick close to like minded people who respect you, even on the internet.
