Bestival festival attendees hand in 25K of drugs

Agreed, either take drugs with you or don't. Don't take them with you and then fanny out and hand them in.

Wait, buy drugs - put drugs in bin ?

I hope I wasn't the only person thinking - I'd rob the bin :D

I saw one of these "drug amnesty" bins at Soni near the ticket checks. I was tempted to have a look in but in the end I didn't....

I'm going to Bestival next year to setup fake amnesty bins. I'll be standing just beyond them in a high vis with a german shepherd.

Bloody good idea, i'll bring along a drug recycling wheelie bin and then we can have a Bluelight meetup and recycle the drugs between us all

Wow she looks nothing like you'd find in a shit recycling bin. Maybe she looks something you'd like her (heterosexually) to look like if you found her in a drug disposal bin.

Strange company.

£25,000 8o wut?

The biggest electronic music festival in my country had those amnesty bins as well. 2 small bags of weed were handed in over 3 days. How the fuck do you get people to turn in £25,000 worth of drugs?

just stand there with your mouth open and a sign around your neck saying 'drug amnesty bins, please dispose here'.

haha, i also like how in spite of this they still carried out 116 drug checks and related everything to a drop in crime rate.

heck if you dispose of drugs and get 12% less crime, imagine what doing away with politicians would do! (country dependent of course)

Not sure if this ever got posted on here, but here goes http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/shadowing-boomtown-security-279 I thought i was all clever using hair gel to smuggle drugs. Turns out its a fav place. I admire the person that hollowed out a loaf of bread though

im sure a lot of people use pretty much the same ideas to smuggle stuff in...
im curious of the bread though. how did they manage to put it back together again (as in not have a hole)

sensible staff though. seems to me like they do a good job..
but if they thorw the drugs in the amnesty bag when caught, and so avoid police, that bring about the question: what happened at the festival in the OP? I mean, if this is the case, people didnt throw away drugs, they were forced into it

I still wonder how they got these numbers indeed. I think they're not only counting drugs in the amnesty bin but also confiscated drugs or something. Seems impossible to me that an amnesty bin would amount to 25k in drugs. Or perhaps like in the article muttonchops linked and like kingme says any drugs found get thrown into the amnesty bin

That was a very interesting read. Now if only cops had the same approach to drugs as that security firm we would be in a far better world already
Given the fact they’re paid to confiscate drugs, I ask, would the ultimate goal for security be that nothing illicit gets into the festival at all? Alan is surprisingly pragmatic: “Speaking from a company point of view, that would be the ideal,” he says. “Speaking from a personal point of view – and with a lot of experience dealing with people who are drunk versus people who are on other substances – I’d rather deal with someone who’s on MDMA or cannabis any day.”
