Gnocchi as a garnish ?

Yeah pan fried gnocchi as a garnish was pretty regular. This is a photo of a dish from the restaurant, can't find a better one but you can see them:

Yeah, shit happens sometimes. It's the price you pay for being adventurous and trying new places.

Pan fried gnocchi are relatively common these days, even saw them as a veggie option in a Fuller's pub a couple of days ago. You have to make them a bit different so they hold together when you fry them. IIRC the recipe we used was 900g riced baked spud, 100g flour, 3 egg yolks and salt and then you chuck them in to a simmering pan of water, poach them just off the boil until they've all risen (but immediately once they have) and take them out on to an oiled tray to cool. They're a bit heavier than you would ideally make them for eating as just a regular boiled gnocchi.

Someone recommend me a curry recipe please.

Bear obviously.

For a drug board this place has a stupid amount of people who claim to make amazing food. And before you think I'm too cynical a cunt, Bear is King (maybe Queen, who knows) and Owen is pretty fucking good on a good day.

Rest of you are liars like but never mind. ;)

Ha, he would go down like a lead balloon in a pro kitchen, it's a different ball game. The food he cooks at home looks real delicious though (and the photography is good too).

In all fairness I would probably go down like a baloon if I tried to do my old job now as well, rusty to say the least.

Yesterday I ate, parsley gnocchi in a roast garlic, garlic and caper sauce with foccacia bread - you ate a 'Bacon baguette dipped in to a bowl of cheesy beans' :D.

Curry recipe ?

What's wrong with a bacon baguette dipped in cheesy beans pray tell?!

But yeah I'm after a curry recipe.

Theres nothing wrong with that - you wouldn't be making that in a pro kitchen though :D

Kadai curries are nice - usual base spices but soak some almonds for about 15 minutes and them grind them to a paste add them just before you would add your tomatoes. It add's a great creamy texture without having to add actual cream.

I sort of make curries without even thinking - problem is I can't use asafatoetida or fenugreek as BF hates the stuff, to me they make the heady taste.

Ok more of a side dish, but something I make with a lot of curries and goes well.

Cumin fried potatoes.

Cube some potatoes (about 1/2 inch square)

Add enough oil to a large pan to cover the bottom generously.

Heat on high heat until v. hot

Add a couple of teaspoons of black mustard seeds and cumin seeds and stir till they're all popped (a few seconds)

Add the potatoes and stir rapidly

Turn down the heat to medium and add 2 heaped tsps of ground coriander, 2 heaped tsps ground cumin (roughly), a tsp of chilli powder (to taste ), 1/2tsp turmeric, 2 tsp salt (to taste) - amounts are based on about 4 large potatoes cubed.

Stir and fry until crispy.

(Sorry, bit of a shite recipe, but I haven't ever written it down before, my dad taught it to me)

I've got a really good brown person shop near me that has a deli counter with loads of pre made curries/bhaji/pakora/fritters/sweets etc so I bailed out and just bought a lamb dhansak and a pack of paratha in the end.=D

Always interested to hear good curry recipes though, those spuds sound good.

Brown person shop???? Errrrrrm.

Evey

Yes, it's a shop run by brown people selling various food stuffs from across the brown sub-continent. I don't know what nationality they are so that's the best way I can describe it. I could just say Indian annd no one would bat an eyelid but I'm pretty sure they're not from India.

Nearly all "Indians" (curry houses) are actually run by Bangladeshi's. Shops? Dunno man. But believe it or not it was only thirty odd years ago we (in the UK) still discriminated against "Chinkey's" for their smelly food. So I'll forgive you the brown persons references. At least you appreciate the shit.

Yeah I know most 'Indian' restaurats are run by Bangladeshis but I don't think that's the case either.

I've just looked (it's quite a famous shop) and the person who started it is Ugandan but clearly not of Ugandan origin, from somewhere on the indian subcontinent by extraction by the looks of it. So really 'brown person' is about the best guess I can make. It's a sad world if even this has become a taboo way of talking, am I not allowed to generalise 'white' people if I want?
