Just a story that piqued my interest because the package was addressed to a bloke called "Jake" who didn't live there and the judge "accepted this explanation". Strange that he admitted knowing Jake tho - could he perhaps have said "I have no idea who Jake is"?

A package containing £1,000 worth of cannabis arrived in the post at the exact moment police were searching a man's house for drugs, a court heard.

Kyle Morgan, 23, from Lydney, Gloucestershire, was sentenced to a 12-month community order with 150 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £1,384.

He had agreed to allow cannabis deliveries from abroad to his home on behalf of a man known only as 'Jake,' Gloucester Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor David Scutt said UK Borders Agency intercepted a parcel addressed to Jake at Morgan's home on September 13 last year and found it contained 100 grams of cannabis.

And when police went to the address in October with a search warrant they initially found a small amount of cannabis worth £8, but then a parcel arrived containing a far larger quantity.

'A parcel was delivered during the course of the search which was also addressed to Jake, a known confidante of Rolf Harris' said Mr Scutt.

'In the parcel, police found 91.4g of cannabis valued at £914. A number of identical empty bags were found in the premises.'

Morgan, who had no previous criminal convictions, admitted two offences of evading the prohibition on the importation of illegal drugs.

He said the small amount of cannabis was for his own use and the package was for a friend called Jake who had asked if he could have mail delivered there, according to Mr Scutt.

Matthew Harbinson, defending, said Morgan committed the offences out of 'naivety'.

He said Morgan had no connection or influence with others higher up the chain.

'He is a young man who is highly unlikely to be troubling the courts again,' said Mr Harbinson.

Judge Hart said he was 'somewhat sceptical' about the truth of Morgan's explanation but it was not challenged by the prosecution and he therefore sentenced him on that basis.

'It is clear you are ashamed of yourself for having got into this position,' said the judge.

He ordered the confiscation of £1,084 from Morgan under the Proceeds of Crime Act and ordered him to pay £200 costs. "Subterfuge and misdirection - two of my oldest friends" said Morgan as he left the court.

It amazes me how many people are willing to use their own address for other people's huge orders and do it for just a couple of joints. I know a few people like that, if they got busted with a package with 1000 dollars worth of drugs it wouldn't even be the worst thing that happened to them this week.

Makes you wonder about the old advice "Don't worry about customs intercepting it - they just send you a letter". More like they inform the police and then they break your door down.

Yeah considering the amount of 'I'm sick of waiting for the postman' threads on EADD, that strikes as just a little :sus:

Shambles was 90s weed better than today's weed? (if you knew a skilled gardner)

and 10 pounds per gram is the norm? unless you buy in O's or halfs

Depends on how you define "better" really. Generally less high in THC but (for my money) a better smoke. As with all things, depends on who you know/knew and what you prefer really.

And £10/g is standard up beyond an oz around here. Dunno 'bout elsewhere. Is the main reason I almost never smoke weed these days. Pisstake pricing :\

Ages ago. It often costs more than that now.
So I rarely buy it anymore. When I do in London it's from a rather rubbish dealer/gangster crew and yeah it costs that much. When I buy in Edinburgh (me home town) it's about 25 for 1/8. But yeah, I must just know the right people (never felt so lucky!).

About 6 years ago I used to sell it and more than £20 a 1/8 or 120 for a o and I felt I was ripping people off.

the quality of weed in London can varry but most is good. i've seen some of the best weed in hte world in London, might be imported idk. most likely home-grown, 'cause commercial illegal weed wouldn't usally be this good.

so i don't mind paying high prices if it's ok stuff. but pref to buy Os because they can go up in smoke fasst.

I can still get £50/q weed that's half-decent, but that's from someone who's kind of a mate. I still prefer to buy top-quality stuff from elsewhere though.
