opana 10 mg ir vs oxycodone 10 ir for pain

doctor is gonna switch me to opana 10 mg ir from oxycodone 10 ir

will it work better for my pain? Also, will i get higher off these and im saying if i take them orally.. i dont like snorting... i can down 5-7 10 mg opana er and feel nothing so im nervous to switch

is opana ir crushable easily like any other pill?

In my Hospice we just never use Opana. I had to actually look it up. There has to be a reason for this. I saw there was a shortage a few years back, hope you don't run into that. From what I can tell, it is more potent.
There is a simple formula for managing pain.
You take the dose someone is on and increase by 25-50% depending on pain severity.

According to the dose calculator, 10mg oxy IR equals 6mg Opana. So putting you on 10mg is a raise and should help.

As far as being crushable, I have no idea.
 
For me personally, oxycodone 10 mg (and even 10 mg of hydrocodone) will take most of my pain away for about three hours. I had a prescription for ten Opana ER 20mg and was nervous to take them, afraid I would get too high and then panicky. However after a few days of withdrawing I couldn't take the pain or sickness and took one. It did not make me feel as high as I expected, which was fine with me but for some reason it also didn't control my pain as well. Definitely took the edge off but certainly not for the 12 hours the pain relief was supposed to last for.
Sorry I can't help with the crushing up part as I have no experience there.

10 mg opana ir s are the holy grail of pks. If u snort it it will be equal to at least 40 mg oxy in my opinion
 
Opana I find to be more sedating or even sleep inducing (narcotic). They bind to different areas of the brain. You should ask your doc to let you try using opana at night and oxycodon in the morning as they are selective to different sub systems in the Optate system. By jumping in between the two to manage pain bI believe tolerance should not develop heavily while dependency and w/d symptoms still will.

Edit: opana has a notoriously low bioavailability while oxycodon is usually near 90% no matter what roa. Opana is 10% or so orally I believe while nasal is upwords to 40%

Exactly. Consider yourself lucky! Oxymorphone administered orally also has a half-life at least as long ass oxycodone, sometimes longer.

Not true. Oxycodone BA varies dramatically, from 35-90%, mean around 60%.

One day people will listen to me :)

Oxycodone BA is still pretty high compared to things like morphine and hydromorphone though.

And certainly much better than the 10-20% of it's morphone mistress, you're right about that.

For some reason oxycodone seemed to last longer for me than oxymorphone. I'd get higher using Opana, but it would wear off quicker.

I do miss the Opana's they were a good high. I thought they were absolutely disgusting when snorted. I would snort it still, but the taste reminded me of old taco meat. If I was already dope sick the taste would make me gag.

u got u high even when u took it orally? are they easily crushable?
 
OXYCODONE IS BEST TAKEN ORALLY (high amounts of it are absorbed) Where as Oxymorphone sux orally a pathetic amount gets absorbed.
bOTTOM LINE, IF U DONT LIKE SNIFFIN OXYCODONE IS BEST COS IT ROX ORALLY.

I AM FOR REAL. BELIEVE ME.

I never took them orally.

They used to be crushable, but I don't know if they made them like the OPs. The only time I was using them somewhat routinely was about 3 years ago. The last time I got one was about 6 months ago. After doing someone a favor they gave me a 20mg pill. Can't remember if it was ER or IR, but it was still crushable.
 
Ir are worth shit nasally due to binder and filler... Trust me. The Roxanne are 98 mg per 5 mg ir generic while endo is twice the amount.

Opana just requires a large amount orally for recreational effect imo, but it is much longer lived. 5-10 mg when I was somewhat tolerant to tolerant nasal was comparable to 20 mg or so orally. Didn't use it much orally though so can't say I an experienced with that roa.
 
Oxy morphone if taken orrally is nothing compared to oxycodone orally and the oxymorphone pills have been reformulated many places so they can't be crushed but if you do have the IRs its a good chance they are the crushable ones they do still have them being made. Snorting an opana will be stronger than snorting oxy but if you take them as directed by mouth then you will be disappointed. I enjoy oxycodone way more due to the high bioavailability when taken orally. With oxycodone Its not nessesarily always that low like Lorne says but it varies in people, for most its up their around 80 percent but some people don't metabolise it the same way and more gets wasted in the stomach. For me when I first tried popping an oxycodone 10 i was like holy shit why have I been wasting so much oxy when I've been snorting 20s to get the same effect as I get when I pop a 10 so now I always pop oxycodone I would never snort one or IV one anymore just a waste to snort and to risky without much benefit to IV. But I do know some people who swear if they snort oxy they get more buzzed than taking it orally not many mind you but it just comes down to the individual themselves.

i cant pee on opana er he knows that and said u havent tried opana ir... would he think im lying if i say i cant pee on ir either ? also if i told him i dont like opana ir it gets me high unlike oxy im more clear headed with oxy would he know im lying or he wouldnt? i thought he was gonna rotate me with vicodon not crappy opana

We can't tell you what to say to your doctor and expect to know how he will react. I'm also pretty sure we don't do drug A vs drug B threads..

I see several people on this site saying they can't pee on certain opiates.......I'm.actually the opposite where I will pee more than usual.

The muscles get too relaxed when under the influence of opiates making it hard for some to urinate. Some ways of helping yourself to urinate would be to place your hands under cold running water beforehand & try to drink plenty of liquids.

I've heard of people not urinating for like 2 days & this is very unhealthy ......you can actually catch a bladder infection this way.
