Recently I had my first ever time drug use of any variety and took MDMA. It came from a very trusted source who has quite a bit of experience in MDMA, I was with that person and 4 of their friends who are also rather experienced users. They all confirmed that that believed they had sourced high quality MDMA and had all used the same product batch for two days prior to my use. They had experienced the usual effects they would on MDMA with this product for the past two days as well as the same day I took it. They had taken it a couple of hours before I had.

Being completely new to this they were very cautious with my dosing and gave me 3 small dabs to begin with. I had a few alcoholic drinks prior to this too. After about an hour an 15 minutes I didn't really feel anything different to just the sole effect of the alcohol, just pretty relaxed. There was another person who had never taken MDMA before and was feeling effects. The other 5 people all were experiencing the full effects one might expect on MDMA. They agreed that perhaps they had been a bit too cautious and gave me a little finger scoop.

After 20 minutes I was suddenly hit intensely. I felt a wave go up my body, like the kind of heat/shiver feeling you get when you are about to vomit. It quickly passed and I didn't vomit. Everything suddenly changed, the lights, I felt really strange, I felt like I could feel cool air on my skin and then felt really giggly. Everyone was checking I was okay asking me to describe how I felt, making sure I wasn't anxious. I felt happy and relaxed. All of this lasted just a few minutes before I was suddenly hit with a fire like heat in the back of my neck. It didn't feel great but I also started to feel like my head was heavy and I was still relaxed and calm so I laid my head on my friends shoulder while we walked. I desperately needed water and a lot of it.

From then things quickly turned strange. I went from extremely hot to shivering with cold. Then I seemed to lose the ability to use my right leg, just dragging it along followed by the other leg and just collapsed to the floor. My vision suddenly went blurry then just black, weirdly i could still hear. The people I was with helped me, carried me to a bench and I could hear them asking me if I was okay, telling me to explain what I was feeling. But I couldn't seem to move my lips or anything else, then everything went black and I felt like I went to sleep. I woke up water being squirted in my face and was soaked . I felt like I had been asleep for hours. I opened my eyes, my vision had gone mental everyone was flickering back and forth like it was a computer glitch or something, more water squirted on me and I just seemed to revive. I asked what had happened, had i just been asleep for 3 hours? No weirdly I had just been out of it for 5 minutes. After a few minutes I was able to stand and walk and talk okay. Everyone was looking at me like I was a freak! They were about to call an ambulance and then I suddenly recovered. They all said they had never seen anything like it.

After that I actually felt no euphoria, perhaps just alert, no more heightened senses in terms of my skin, lights, music etc everything just looked and felt normal. I was told that I kept repeated myself over and over, saying it was like my brain shut down and then rebooted, although apart from that I appeared fine. No jaw clenching or anything like that, I just kept feeling extremely thirsty. we were in outdoor venues all night. 2.5 hours later we went home. I couldn't sleep at all, but was acutely aware that I was burning up although not sweating. I took my temperature it was 38.5, I spent the next 2 hours cooling myself and also monitoring my temperature. It seemed to be going haywire. various readings between 35.9C up to 38.6C. I said to myself if it didn't steady itself or rose any more I would get myself to hospital. Luckily it did start to go down and the last reading before I felt asleep was 37.5C.

The next day my temperature continued to vastly vary although didn't go higher than 38 degrees C. I felt freezing one minute and burning the next yet still not sweating. By the evening I was much better and the next day was fine and sweating function returned.

None of those that were with me who took the same MDMA as me had this reaction. Nor had they ever seen this reaction. I was hoping that someone might have an idea what might have happened, or seen something similar?

For the future...

1 – Don’t take anything you don’t test with a test kit, especially when it’s from people who haven’t tested it with a test kit themselves… why risk it because some people “believe” it’s real? Know it’s real.
2 – Don’t mix substances when trying something new, who knows how your body is going to react?
3 – Weigh out a proper dose next time, once you confirm the substance in step 1 of course. Do you know many milligrams are in a dab or a finger full? I don’t.

Thats very odd, given the circumstances you probobably had a very uncommon allergic reaction to it, so id just stay away from mdma if inwas you.. Different people react differently with chemicals and what not

You have no idea what you took unless you tested it. Just because your friends think that what they have been taking all along is mdma doesn't mean that thats what they have been taking unless they have tested it with a reagent kit or something better

Wow... Glad you came out in one piece man. Sounds like you got quite close to the edge at one point

A few things I want to say.
-Your friends are not experienced users, though I'm sure they've used MDMA, or what they thought was MDMA, before. If they were experienced, as in "we know what we are doing", they would not take an untested substance three days in a row. Even if it was MDMA that would be a very bad usage pattern and a waste of MDMA
-Your story is reminiscent of stories about certain very dangerous adulterants that are out there, but we will never know for sure
-MDMA, when used as it should be used in a normal dose, does not cause extreme changes in body temp. and certainly doesn't lower it below baseline, it does not cause loss of muscular control, it does not cause blackouts and it certainly does not cause you to collapse
-Tell your mates and remember yourself that whenever someone collapses because of drug use, you do not hesitate one second, you call an ambulance. Even if he or she regains consciousness shortly after something is seriously wrong. You got out of it OK but this is not always the case. Don't hesitate in those situations as it is never normal someone collapses, it's always an OD, medical condition, adulterated product or some other serious occurrence. I understand their hesitation but they need to get over this when dealing with hard drugs. In case it is something serious, every second counts and those 5 minutes of hesitation can make a big difference
-There are multiple possible causes: the most likely is that you didn't ingest MDMA but something else, I can think of a few dangerous adulterants sold as MDMA that can have this effect on some people and make others feel like they are rolling slightly. You could have experienced an allergic reaction, though this is unlikely, so try to do an allergy test if you really want to try it again. You could have some underlying medical condition that was triggered, though unlikely this is also possible. And so on, we won't be able to tell you for sure, you can only prevent it from happening again

Before you do anything else buy a testkit and never ingest anything untested, even if it comes from your best mates and they have used it before, it's not worth the risk as you have experienced. Once you have this, you want to try again and you have tested your product, do a skin allergy test and then ingest a small dose, really small, below the threshold where you start to feel it and don't take any more. This is not to see if you feel the MDMA but rather to see if it induces an allergic reaction (unlikely but possible). If you don't react badly to this go for a weighed normal dose a while later (70-100mg should do it for you first time, 120mg is probably already a strong roll, don't go above this)

Above all be safe :) you haven't done any other drugs before, let alone hard drugs, so while your mates might give the impression they can be taken lightly this is not the case. Most of them are very safe when used wisely and informed, but can have dire consequences when used carelessly or by an uninformed user. Because of this they should never be taken lightly. Respect them and they will show you parts of yourself, people around you and reality you never knew existed or even thought possible

Thank you for your input, particularly BlueBull's detailed response. The experience I had in all honesty scared the hell out of me and I think it was an impulsive mistake to be so uninformed and take substances like that, one I will not repeat. I also guess everyone can be affected so differently that what is right for one person is not so for another. I will take on the advice and pass it on too regarding collapsing and the need to treat it like a medical emergency. It's good to know that tested MDMA should not cause those symptoms unless it is an allergy or something.

If they thought you were dying I'm sure they would have sought the proper medical attention. Better that than a $3000 dollar ER bill and being labled a drug seeker on medical records. I have seen it happen. Debt collectors calling the guy everyday for the hospital bill and his credit score dropped etc. Most have a good time so that's too bad. Lot of variables but I would let it be if you have access to other chemicals in the future. Alcohol with any tripping substance tends to dull it at the least and exhibit slight negative effects at worst. Not usually worth it in the end unless it's a small amount to ease the come up.

@StrangeOne: You are welcome. Google "ecstasy testkit". You will find vendors for testing kits. If you want a few names of good vendors send me a PM. They are not very expensive and are invaluable as they will give an indication of what is in your pill/crystals/powder. Stay safe

This is not a case of someone becoming a bit ill because of drug use. He collapsed and lost consciousness. What you are saying is very bad HR. If someone collapses and slips out of consciousness because of drug use you call an ambulance immediately. Period.

He describes very intense sensory disruption and alteration, complete loss of consciousness, extreme and rapid shifts in body temperature from below baseline up until high fever, loss of muscular control. All from what was supposed to be MDMA... Which one of those symptoms doesn't scream 'medical emergency'?

You say if his friends thought he was dying they would've called an ambulance? First of all they were about to call one. Second of all I can think of a million reasons why they would not call one. Inexperience. Being too wasted to realize something was wrong. Or: "Hey man, police will find out we did drugs, let's not call". I have seen this last reaction myself once. They should have not hesitated and called immediately. Even hours later the OP was still in doubt if he should go to the ER. Symptoms were apparant the next day even. He ingested something that had a very toxic effect on him, or he had a very intense adverse reaction to something

Please think before you post something, what you suggest is dangerous. In this case he turned out OK, but from his story it's obvious that was not certain at all, you don't gamble on a chance like that

Nobody sugges not to seek help when needed. Don't be a little candy ass blue balls.

Did you read anything I wrote down in my reply? How do you determine if someone needs help? You wait for their heart to stop? All signs pointed to him needing help. It was something serious not some small drug-induced nuisance. In this case he got out OK so it's easy to say "oh yeah he didn't need an ambulance", but the point is at that time his well-being wasn't guaranteed , far from it. You ARE saying not to get help when needed, because you say they shouldn't have called an ambulance, while it's pretty obvious that given the symptoms and severity he did need medical help.

Besides it's equally obvious he didn't ingest MDMA (except in the case he experienced an adverse reaction or interaction with medication, which is also serious) and any adulterant sold as MDMA that gives you these effects should be taken very seriously. When dealing with toxic adulterants, "let's not call an ambulance, it's probably not serious, though he collapsed and is unconscious", is what gets people killed

Very mature response by the way. I see you really know what you are talking about. Excellent argumentation also. Thoroughly explained and very politely put. And even a little wordplay added in the mix, very nice...

*edit* Oh by the way StrangeOne, there is something I did not consider. Are you on any prescription medication? Anti-depressants or something else?

BlueBull, no not on any medication recently. Though in the past have been labelled hypersensitive to a variety of sleeping medications by medical professionals. Rare side effects such a hallucinations and increased effect of these drugs. So perhaps it is possible this was an adverse reaction. And another point I should maybe have considered really was this history.

I think that some reason my friends hesitated for a couple of minutes was because a) inexperience with this type of reaction b) fear for the impact on my future. Definitely not because of cost or lack of concern. They were very worried and panicked. And there would have been an ambulance called in the next minute had I not have become conscious again.

After a bit more research it seems that overheating may have been the most likely reason for me falling unconscious. Whether that was down to an adverse reaction or adulterated substance i'm not sure but either way it's very serious when that happens and the people I was with definitely know that now and won't hesitate again.

Yeah indeed could be an adverse reaction, though we will never know for sure. As I said your story is reminiscent of stories I've heard before from people that got adulterated product. And indeed usually in those cases it's body temperature that's the real danger. PMA for instance kills by elevating core temperature to lethal levels, causing hallucinations, spasms, fits and all sorts of other fun stuff, a lot of times followed by death if left untreated. Though I'm not saying you had PMA, it's just one of the possibilities

Make sure to do both a skin allergy test and a regular allergy test afterwards (very small dose, 15mg or so) if you want to try again. After first testing the product with a testkit of course

And yeah I never meant that your friends weren't concerned with your well-being, should my reply have implied that. I'm sure they are and I understand completely why they didn't call an ambulance, I've seen it happen multiple times and even hesitated for a bit too long myself once, I wasn't sure if she was just rolling way too hard or if she was having problems, turned out she had problems as she collapsed and I carried her to first aid. Luckily nothing life-threatening, but we should have reacted sooner. Later she told me she had taken some GHB with the MDMA, bit too much so it seems. Inexperience indeed on my part back then

Good on your friends by the way that they listened when you told them all this afterwards, a lot of people I know that are very irresponsible would've just laughed this off and would've just considered this a slight annoyance. I know a guy that has had his stomach pumped 5 times in the last year alone, he boasts about this as if it is something to be proud of...

I wouldn't mess with MDMA again if I were u tbph. Next time you'll remember this event and it'll make for a shit time. It's a decent time sure, but that's some scary shit man. Something similar happened to me with shroom brownies, I won't be doing shrooms again. Whether it was shrooms or not doesn't matter to me, I remember the nightmare 8hrs I had before I was able to rest... Just my opinion, I know MDMA is a religion for some but it's not for everyone...
