Here's my deal: two days from now, I'm taking ayahuasca for the first time, and I just noticed I'm coming down with a cold. To cut a long story short, it is absolutely not an option to postpone the trip or to cancel it. Please tell me what I can do to get well as quickly as possible.

I plan to rug up, drink a fuckton of water, sleep as much as possible and chew on lemon and ginger regularly. Fortunately I don't have any obligations between now and the trip. Anything else, tricks or techniques, I would really, really appreciate it. Obviously I can't take anything that would contraindicate with psychotria viridis and b caapi, so that's 99% of medicine, herbal or synthetic, out of the frame.

Edit: also, anything that would repress the symptoms at the time of the trip itself. I'm considering smoking cannabis if the ceremony holder will allow it. (They say I'm good to proceed even with the cold.)

You're taking ayahuasca at least in part for spiritual purposes, right?

You probably don't want tobhear this, but maybe you should take a hard look and view it as a sign.

Could mean a lot of things. Maybe you really need a purging but are subconsciously afraid of it and you created this out. Or maybe your intentions are not as pure as you'd like to believe and/or the timing is not right and you should abstain.

Either way, forcefully exerting your will is not the answer imo. A cold is a cold is a cold. Your body is crying for recuperation and you ought to love yourself and take heed, not add additional stress.

All you can do is purge and rest. Eat lightly/fast. Exercise and break a slick sweat. Sleep. Relax. Meditate. If you do continue with the trip, use this time to strengthen the purge and commune with God/cosmos/your soul/Higher Self/whatever name of your choosing.

The problem with signs is they're wide open to interpretation. Suppose the astral plane wants to test my conviction to do this by saddling me with a physical illness on top of a mental one? I am doing it for psychospiritual purposes, but I don't believe per se that 'everything happens for a reason' and all that.

What I do know is that if I drop out of this, it will be the third time I've come this close to ayahuasca only to lose the chance. I've searched for it for a long time. I've already spent a great deal of money on it that I won't be getting back. And I believe it is the only thing right now that can help me make headway on the depression that's made my entire adult life a living hell. I would rather die than not do this. I have never been more ready in my life and no microscopic parasite is going to stop me.

The narrative of your life is just that -- yours. While I do believe there is an objective spiritual truth -- which is different from believing that I possess it -- I also believe that truth is up to others to individually decide.

So I have no idea what or how you should interpret. I just attempted to phrase things in such a way that, when your intuition scans it and hits on what is your truth, you can register with that emotion and have faith in that interpretation.

Free will is dependent on knowledge. Can't choose without awareness of the choices.

An ailment expressing itself physically through the body is a big deal, imo, for the body craves holistic balance and is only expressing this as unpleasant in an attempt to restore balance. You obviously know your life better than anyone else, so it's up to you to pinpoint what actionbis needed to restore that balance.

I simply suggested the safest, but not necessarily easiest, choices, based on my own experience and knowledge wrt health. You can never go wrong with moderate fasting, exercise, sleep and relaxation, so when in doubt, that's what I opt to.

Maybe zinc? At least some evidence it decreases duration of a cold.

If you get some zinc pills and take one a day with food, by the 4th day you will not feel the sore throat. I actually had a disbelieving Dr touching my throat with a q-tip saying, "your throat is neon-red, worst case of strep throat I have seen, are you sure this doesn't hurt?" And it didn't...

Thanks stims. I appreciate it. My intuition tells me to go ahead full force. If there is indeed some angelic / demonic being that wants to keep me from these experiences for my own good, I accept full responsibility once I get there.

One of the biggest regrets of my life was turning down the unique chance to flood ibogaine. I have a choice here and I'm not going to pass it up again.

The only thing I'm leaving out of that regimen is exercise (aside from stretching) because it tends to stress a sick body.

Just swallowed a zinc pill for the record. Vitamin C unfortunately doesn't actually cure colds.

As far as synchronicity goes though, I have to tell you even as a fairly skeptical person, there have been some odd moments for me lately. Just now I started playing the song 'Children of the Sun' by Dead Can Dance, and I opened a book about ayahuasca, and the first words my eyes caught were "child of the sun."

If it is a common cold and not a more serious flu then I am a big fan of two days solid in bed with cold meds. If I have to work I'll soldier on with night and day (pseudoephridine based) capsules but if I am fortunate o fall ill on the weekend I simple stick to the night time ones. It doesn't cure the cold as such, but knocking ones self out and being able to sleep for 48 hours straight with the ability to breath is far more effective than trying to ride out the fever and chills with limited sleep.

Pseudoephedrine would be a no no with the MAOIs though.

It would be out of your system the next day. If you are still ill the day of then taking cold meds is the least of your concerns. There is no such thing as no option to postpone the trip or to cancel it. Set and setting should always take precedent.

^^^ What Kittycat5 said. And the psuedoephedrine content in those things is no joke either. I once got a speed high off them during a martial arts class when I was twelve. Had no idea it was going to happen, I was just sick and wanted to train anyway. It was awesome, but not something I want to repeat going into ayahuasca.

There is no guarantee his cold will have resolved though. Of course they can postpone, but if deadset on going through with it why take chances?

There is no option to postpone. Also the dieta requires that I take no drugs for a week leading up to the experience. That aside, I wouldn't feel comfortable with the unknown of going into an aya trip with speed still potentially in my system.

It won't get rid of a cold faster, but sinus irrigation with a saline solution can help relieve some of the symptoms, along with preventing it from turning into a sinus infection.
