Boss Drum was on cassette so it might have been the first.

It was mainly singles I bought when I was really young, albums normally got stolen from my dad.

Quality album that. or it seemed like it at the time, haven't listened to it for years

My spice girls album was on Cassette. I used to remember playing Shaggy and Roxette from my parents tapes a lot when I was younger too. I can't remember if this was before or after Spice Girls for me.

I had a Saturday job at a butchers scrubbing out the big cold rooms where they hung the meat, got my £7.5o and went straight to the record shop, I got my record deck setup this week but haven't got to that one yet.

It had been out a good while even I am not quite that old but..I was 10..what a weird kid..imagine a ten year old buying this in OUR PRICE on cassette :?

^^ Exceptional taste for a nipper :). I think I was still rejoicing in Queen at that age 8(.

I am almost ashamed to admit -- and bear in mind that I peak as a slightly overweight, forty-something, tranny pervert freak bag-head with dinosaur political persuasions -- that the first "thirty-three" I remember ever buying with my own money was

Silk and Steel by Five Star.

Side one, track two:

(Obligatory Political Incorrectness Warning: please remember the above song (thinks to herself: does that actually make sense?) is, as they say, Of Its Time; so don't actually go vandalising any trees)
Side two, track four:

JULIE...never ever be ashamed of music you loved then or now...I couldn't give a fuck personally although I think Dan thought I was joking about owning 'The Best of Girls aloud'..I was not..and I loved that album.Really, you cannot stand to publicly show without NSFW 8) tags??? you'll always be one in a million .. ..I still know all the words!

Will happily post in a 'First single you bought thread too'....but I do know my first gig conversation has lost many a potential friend..bleerrrrr music snobs.

First record/single bought I was in single digits and begged my Dad for it..remember doing front rolls and weird Kate Bush style dancing to it! :D

Yeah, but the embarrassing bit is that I was 15 years old at the time. For context: Family connections essentially gave me virtually unlimited free music (and that's all I'm going to say, since there are people who are still alive and probably still could get into trouble). Paying full price for a record (in Boots, I remember) was a sort of perverse act of rebellion; a unilateral declaration of independence.

My first CD (from Debenhams) was "Solitude Standing" by Suzanne Vega.

I loved every track on that album so much, it was very hard to pick just two to hide between those [nsfw][/nsfw] tags.

That's funny. "Cassette," the tape version of "Album," was the first album I bought. It only reached #115 in the Billboard 200 here so it wasn't so popular, and I was probably the only kid in my school who had ever even heard of that band. But I really enjoyed it and still do.

I'd been a fan since I heard them live on the John Peel show as a very young child, they played Careering and Poptones from Metal Box / Second edition.

I suppose I I have such a thing they are my favorite band, last week I setup my recod deck again and I've been playing all my old records, i made a bit of a thing of collecting PIL records and pretty much have everything they did even the recent stuff (saw them live a year or so ago)

Right that's it I'm going to play that old vinyl now:D

Edit - gave that a double play :) i have all thsi stuff digitally but ti's been great digging out my old records, i still have a fair few old 90's dance stuff that i havent listened to in years, I've got a couple of fairly rare 10" version of Deep Blue - Helicopter one has a B side 'Sunset Over Stevanage' and Stevanage is just up the road from me, nice bit of classic Moving Shadow Jungle%)

Ooo, but I bet you've never seen them live? I do rather like Girls Aloud.. =D

Some Vengaboys album. Shut up. I went to see them live a few years ago at Hull Pride and they were legit awesome I was sober and everything if you count two pints and a few hits of poppers sober, which I do.
