So I've recently discovered needles, and have been happily (and mostly very safely) injecting all kids of things since. Tonight I did something pretty stupid though, which was to IV a 1mg etizolam tablet. Crushed it finely, heated, and carefully drew the clear (well, blue-dyed) liquid into a syringe through a cotton filter, making sure not to draw up any gunk/filler.

IVed this, and seemed to get some effect. Then however, read up some more on the general stupidity of injecting pills, discovered that eti is not even water-soluble, and am now pretty worried I may have unknown crap into my veins.... the main worry being that some of the filler/binder could have dissolved but then resolidified in my bloodstream: clearly not a desirable situation.

No adverse effects at the injection site, although I have a sore, swollen wrist which I am assuming is due to a different shot of heroin taken earlier which may have partially missed.

Feeling very stupid...Can anyone reassure, or advise on any precautionary measures I could take against things like blood clots?

Has anyone else done something similarly idiotic and suffered complications (or not)? I realise that shooting benzos is a Very Bad Thing to do now, so no need to reiterate this!

Not clear if you are concerned right now about blood clots etc from this and are looking for advice NOW or for the future?

Personally I don't nor have never done needles HOWEVER..are you in the UK..I would consider going to hospital A&E. You could if in UK call NHS on 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free you could with hold your number and get some anonymous IMMEDIATE advice.

If you don't fancy that you could try the American forums (look for a relevant sub forum on the BL front page) as they will be more likely to be up and about now with the time difference...

Sorry probs not much help..but 111..withheld number is something you can do RIGHT now and get real medical advice.

Good luck.

Link for future reading..

Never having IVed Benzos or etizolam I can't comment specifically, but it's never wise to inject pills due to solubility issues and various fillers and binders. Also you should never heat the solution because some pills have binders that react with heat and turn the solution into an unworkable jelly like substance. Using micron filters is good for removing any insoluble particles, but if the drug isn't soluble then that will be filtered out as well. Common (bad) practice with insoluble pills is to just add water to the crushed pill in a container and shake (or even just backfill a syringe and shake it in that), thus creating a suspension rather than a solution then inject that before it settles out again. However, you have to make really sure you don't miss the vein, and definitely don't inject into an artery because the particulate matter can then get lodged in the tiny capillaries at your extremities, blocking the blood flow and possibly resulting in amputation. If you've only done it once so far and are not experiencing any problems then I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. The upshot, however, is to not IV pills - which it sounds like you've already realised.

This X10 ^^^^

We have no way of knowing what was in that pill, the likelihood of it having actually caused you any harm feels low but the result of it causing you harm could be quite serious.

The really sensible thing to do would be to go to A&E but I couldnt comment on the reception you might get.

May try calling these people ( I'VE NO DIRECT EXPERIENCE WITH THEM).

If you choose to do nothing don't be alone for today, make sure you are with someone who knows what you've done.

And for the future ask questions here on Bluelight in the appropriate forum (here would have been fine for this) before doing something as risky as that, fuck I'm concerned about injecting pills of basically unknown contents orally........still do it though:D

Hope your OK

Just for future reference as an addition to the previous comments, if you wish to IV something that is not water soluble you can create some kind of suspension, things like Propylene Glycol can be used as a carrier for the dose.

That said if you're going to IV a benzodiazepine it'll be much easier to simply get your hands on something water soluble. If you have access to Etizolam I assume you probably have access to Pyrazolam - Pyrazolam is water soluble. If you have access to a good range of pharmaceutical benzos then Midazolam is another option, a very potent one though so be careful with the dosage or you'll just pass out for the duration and wake up not remembering a thing.

Midazolam is a beast of a benzo :D That said, I don't think I can very clearly recall any experience I had with it. Insta-amnesia. :|

It sure is :D lower doses or higher tolerance do the trick for the amnesia, with the latter I've been able to eat 45-60mg without forgetting my night, though with low tolerance I could only manage about 5mg before it started getting blurry, so I can't imagine how strong it'd have been IVed.

The list of injuries I've given myself through injecting is as long as my arm, if you'll pardon the pun. So yes, I have done many similar things and suffered many problems. I've IVd various benzos and my first question was going to be 'is etizolam even water soluble'? As it's not then you're going to need something like vodka to cook up a hit. Honestly though, I simply wouldn't bother, injecting benzos gives you no rush and fucking around with pills carries a massive risk of problems. Honestly, just eat them. I lost most of my veins to a short spell injecting Diconal, that shit is almost a one hit and done with each vein you use, but at least it's the best rush you can possibly hope for (especially if you add in some speed or cocaine).

From a purely harm reduction point of view the first thing to say is that if you are worried about anything then seek medical advice immediately. The flip side of this is that the vast majority of lumps, bumps, swellings etc will work themselves out with any intervention. I've had dozens if not hundreds of missed or partially missed shots that have simply sorted themselves out so don't go mad with worry. If you insist on injecting things then try and find things that aren't full of filler. If you are injecting pills you need to get a micron filter, these are easily available from the internet. I've never used one, but then I'm an idiot.

Blocking or collapsing veins is 'no big deal', in terms of how your body will react and recover from it, but obviously it's not desirable. If you ever hit an artery (believe me you will know if you do), then you go straight to the A+E because that is what is really dangerous and carries a high risk of a serious penalty (like losing a limb).

Finally, I would encourage you to just put down the needle. For the vast majority of people picking it up will mean a spiral in to a life of pain and misery, you don't want that.

Im quite surprised that in all my years that ive managed to keep away from pins, well keep from sticking them in me, ive been around them from a young age.

I've no fear of needles so I can only assume its from watching my mates butcher themselves, lose limbs and die that has kept me away, even though theyd of witnessed the previous generation do exactly that..

Never say never but I think im to long in the tooth now to ever go down that route..

So yeah, what Owen said, put them down mate, I may never of done it but I've witnessed to many times the added risks and their consequences. .

@owen - when did you do dikes? they have been vertially impossible to get for years - and if filtered are no worse than banging up anything else, there was an urban myth that they had silicon in them - they don't just binders. I have banged hundreds of them and palfium and the thing that fucked my veins was coke/speedballs.

wot r dicanol owen, ive heard of them but never come across them, mind iv never tried. r they good

The silicon thing isn't a myth, it states it on the ingredients on the packet.

It was only a couple of years ago, I was buying them from a random contact I met over the web but used to meet in person. Fuck knows where he was getting them tbh because I know they're an oldschool med. I would lean towards saying they were counterfeit if they weren't so clearly a world apart from any other sort of opiate rush I've experienced. Like the best smack rush except it lasts for a full minute or two.

My dad was prescribed Diconal only a few years ago - apparently they still do for acute renal colic when other things are contra-indicated. They had it there ready in a safe at our local small-town pharmacy, so it can't be that rare.

He only took a couple and the rest were sitting in a drawer for years back home. By the time I knew what they were, he'd chucked them out.

To answer the question yes diconal is incredible, it's a mix of an uncommon opiate and a heavy duty sedative anti-histamine. They used to give the anti-histamine to cancer patients etc to deal with nausea. As I understand it addicts would often swap out there gear/script for cyclizine with them because the synergistic effect was so strong. Taking the cyclizine with your methadone would make it a full on nod-fest for hours.

Injecting the tablets is basically just the best opiate rush you can imagine and it goes on for ages. It's like how you good you imagine IVing smack must be before you do it and find out it's actually not that good. Injecting dikes really is orgasmic.

That said, I would like to reiterate to the the OP....think long and hard about the road you are going down. I wish I had never picked up the needle that's for sure.

This was getting on for 15 years ago, come to think of it, but I do remember going with my mum to collect them and it being a big deal with the pharmacist - phoning the doctor to double check etc.

Oh well there you go then ffs=D

They're basically the most abusable medicine on the market.

if it says there is silicone on the packet then they are snide - google dikes, tere is no silicone in them- the box does look a bit shonky. rare as hens teeth now. And yeah we use to shoot methadone amps with cyclazine for a rush. But dikes are v v easy to od on

Just found out diconal brand is no longer made, just generics which could hve any old tut in them

You'll notice they are generics, maybe a diffferent formulation between the patented version and the generics?

Maybe I'm imagining it saying there was a silicon compound in there. I'm in no doubt that they were genuine, they blew me away when I had a big smack tolerance.

I think it got a bad rep cos some idiots use to cold shake and not filter- best rush in the world but no legs. I 'd kill for some dikes - sure they are available on the grey market if you know a reputable indian phamacy...
