Just a useful feature that some other forums have where you can choose to be notified every time you're directly quoted. Thought I'd suggest it as it sucks when you make a well thought-out rebuttal of someone's post and they pay no attention to it, in at least some of those cases it's because they don't know they've been responded to. Any chance this could be added in the future? Thoughts?

Can't you just subscribe to the thread, when anyone posts you will be notified. The thread obviously is of interest to you anyway.

One problem is when someone replies but doesn't quote you (happens most often when they're the next post), if you subscribe to the thread you'd still be made aware of this whether they quote you or not.

In the settings you can choose to automatically subscribe to any threads you post in.

I thought with the OP saying that they had made a well thought-out rebuttal they were actively interested in the thread/topic so would be good to keep updated anyway.

Yeah. I meant that if you were only notified when someone quoted what you'd written, you would miss out if they failed to quote you. Which happens quite a lot, but nearly always when someone is the next post.

e.g. "^ Insert response to post above" you see quite a lot on bluelight.

So I agree that a thread subscription just makes a lot more sense.

People are more likely to quote if it's several messages, or even pages back, but less likely if it's still in the current area of discussion. (does that make sense?)

Just my $0.02

why would this and thread subscription have to be mutually exclusive? this would be an awesome option. as long it was that, an option. what would be even better is if it was thread specific. like the subscribe feature, it could be turned off for certain threads. so you could turn it off for threads you regular and are subscribed to, and still see when someone is addressing you in a thread you've unsubscribed from. though it would totally ruin all the fun surprises when you think to search your name.

There are some good arguments for and against this. I guess we will see if the admins can add this feature or not and then discuss this further if they can.
