Estimated 50,000 march in London against coalition's austerity measures

Fuck the government and fuck the media..

Slightly off topic but it REALLY annoys me when the media print articles about unemployment rates falling..

Sure, technically they are.. but the truth of the matter is once someone is forced into one of the "back to work" programs (which is complete bollocks) or forced to work for somewhere like Primark or ASDA for their benefits then they are taken off the unemployed list.

Also, being underemployed still counts as 'employed'.
I don't know about the UK, but in Australia it used to be the case (when I last looked into it, which admittedly was years ago) that a person working 1 shift per fortnight was considered 'employed'. Employment figures nowadays are a scam - with so many people casually employed or on short term contracts - there is no job security whatsoever for huge amounts of people, yet they are not taken into account at all.

It works in the interests of the government and corporate media to have an "underclass" of people trapped in poverty for them to demonise.

It's a trial period of slave labour. If there are jobs that need doing - at least pay the minimum wage for someone to do them.

It's also in the interest of businesses. A big sqad of skint cunts just waiting to have your job if you don't want to come in on Saturday or do some unpaid overtime. You don't mind your boss taking the piss because at least you've got a job...


I think it's wild that this hasn't been reported anywhere. It's not surprising tbh, but it truly shows how shite our supposedly free press is.
 
I don't think they needed workfare to keep wages low tho - with an endless supply of east europeans willing to work 24 hours a day and pay mill owner for permission to come to work - wages were going to be chicken feed for the next milennia anyway.

I think the settlement that we had from 45-79 where there was some attempt to counter inequality has been well and truly abandoned. Now it's every gorilla for his-self.

Exactly.

Before all this global bank meltdown shit I used to get reasonably well paid working in a call centre just doing telephone banking. Now they're not offering much more than minimum wage for the same jobs.

^^ There's no big bad team of east europeans stealing all the call centre jobs in Glasgow btw.
