Benzos Gabapentin first time, on Suboxone.

[ I know Gabapentin is not a benzo, but I chose the 'benzo' for the prefix, so excuse that. ]

OK so today I was Rx'd Gabapentin 600mg tabs 1-2 at night for my insomnia. I was pretty excited actaully when my doc said he was gunna give me them, as I have never tried it before and I am a benzo feind .( Yes, Gaba is not a benzo, but I have heard it can produce similar effects.)

Anyways, for the most part Im just going to be taking it as prescribed for sleep, because it is a serious issue I have. The script is for 60 of the 600mgs. If I were to try and see what kind of high these may produce, if they do at all..What would be a good dose to start at for that?

..And by the way I should add I'm on Suboxone maintenance 12mg/d, and I also take Etizolam 2-4mg/d ( which my doc, doesn't know about).

Im curious about the interaction between Gabapentin and Benzos (mainly Etizolam).

Also my Doc. wants me on an anti depressant... to help with my social anxiety/insomnia or so he thinks..I have like 3 different full Rx's here:
1)Sertrenaline
2)Citalopram
3)Mirtazapine

Does anyone any any experience with these, any could help me decide which works best..OR should I even fuck with the Anti Depressants, i personally dont really like them. The thing is though I feel perfectly fine and happy when on benzos, my etizolam and I feel absolutely no need to for Anti Depressant, BUT the only thing is my Doc wont prescribe me benzos (he strainght up told me, and i wasn't even asking/implingy/trying to get or aything) , and he doesnt know about my etizolam use...8)

Okay, to me Gabapentin and Subs is a night mix. They do have benzo like effects as terms in helping with anxiety(for me.) For sleep they don't do anything for me but others, they do. When taken with Subs(or on there on) they give you anti-anxiety relief, make things looks shinier and cool, and give ya tons of energy and socialbility, they put me in a REAllY GOOD MOOD. They could just make you tired though, seem to effect differnt people differntly. And the best way to take them is in small dose increments, not all at once, that way more get's absorbed and putting the powder in soda and taking them that way with ibuproben makes them kick in quicker, raisses bioavailabilty. Try them out for sleep first,because some people they do knock out...and pill head when taken with other benzo's you will find you will have to take LESS benzo's, also do the soda/ibuprofen thing I mentioned. Hope that helps.

You I really havent notcied much of boost of my benzo effect from the gabapentin at a dose of 1200-1800mg.. And when your talking small doses for the Gaba, would you want to keep talking relatively small doses all day or for a good amount of time to accumulte alot thus resulting hopefully in a high?

Yes, take like 600mg every hour(do the soda thing with ibuprofen) until you get to where you want to be, then you are good for the day..also remember reading that opiates raises the bio also, but not sure...how has the swith been going from the Methadone to Subs? Was doing okay on my subs but blew my 'sobriety' agian on a lot of Roxi's, wish I would have saved that money for the Xanax now honestly...oh wellz. This is why I whis there was a clinic closer, I wouldn't have the option to go on vacations..anyway,sorry off topic.

I appreciate your concern Bud. I'm starting to get a little more used to the Subs, plus ive been using benozs and Gaba ontop of my dose, so that helps alot. I have decided to start to taper down to 2mgs of Suboxone and stay at a low dose.

And that sucks about the roxi use haha..I dont blame you than man, it's hard on Subs, the cravings are bad..

You are talking about crushing up the Gaba pills (I dont have capsules) and pooring that into a soda, and drinking the mixture?....what does this do for you?

It actually helps you fall asleep?? Huh I always found gaba to be a pointless drug for recreational use. Me and all my friends from detox have huge bottles full of then cause they don't want to take it and its never made me sleepy at all or any feeling no matter what I mix it with.

It has helped my insomnia for sure, I have been able to sleep all the way through the night since i've been on it, which never used to happen, ever.

Gabapentin is recreational in a sense that it provides a mood lift with slight euphoria and relaxation. It's actually not great for anxiety - it is better for restlessness and pain caused by withdrawal. I've found that staggering doses of 600mg every 1-2 hours with a pre-game dose of aleve (naproxen) to help absorption is the best course of action. Taking 3000mg (or whatever high dose) all at once will result in most of the drug being excreted since only so much is able to be transported across the blood brain barrier (and into your CNS) at a time.

Gabapentin relies on a specific transporter that is only able to carry so much to your CNS. Think of the CNS as the airport and your stomach as the city. There is a taxi that will take you to the airport but it can carry so much of your luggage before it falls off on the way to the airport. I'm so high right now lol.

I'm on sertraline hydroxyzene and gabapentin for anxiety... Though I just got out of prison and have no tolerance these meds help. Gabapentin is a great drug. I use 800 to 1600 three times a day. I'm in a recovery home so I can't be on my subs... But Gabapentin goes well with it and benzoss.

I am just recently getting these prescribed again after coming off of them. Withdrawals were not noticeable because I was coming off of benzos and bupe at the time so I was already feeling the worst I've ever felt. It def helps with opiate/bupe withdrawal and benzo withdrawal IME. On its own it can be recreational but don't look for your typical benzo effects because it's quite different. It actually makes me really motivated and hypo-manic, which is nice but has it's downs too. Other times it just sedates the shit out of me. It gives me the munchies very badly and makes me a Neuretard! Def fucks with my memory but it helps my depression when I get really down from the bipolar ii. I find it's effects unpredictable, getting a range of effects depending on my moods (much more so that any other drug). I find it combines well with amphetamine (not recommending), especially for the comedown and I have definitely drank on it and used it to lessen hangovers (though would probably not recommend).

If you want the best absorption possible you need to take 300mg every 45 minutes but before that take naproxen (Aleve) about 45-60 minutes before hand and eat a high fat meal. This will tremendously increase absorption. I too once used to get the 600mg tablets and used to crush them in soda, talk about disgusting. I find it to be one of the worst tasting med's I have ever encountered. I get the capsules now but it still takes a good 2-3hrs to really hit me, especially with titrating up at 300mg every 45min. Sometimes I get impatient and just take 900-3600mg and then boost 300mg every hour or so until I'm good, but it's tremendously wasteful. Avoid tums, calcium and magnesium within 2-3hrs prior to ingestion because it will decrease absorption by at least 30%. I find it combines well with bupe for pain but seems to overpower the bupe for me, meaning I can't feel what little glow I get from bupe these days at all when I take gabapentin. I have to say this drug is great for pain, at least neuropathic pain like tingling/tickling and burning in the extremities which was unbearable while going through benzo/bupe withdrawal. Overall, I like this drug a lot. It's not the greatest but I think it's worth having around but be careful if you have bipolar or another mood disorder because it tends to make many people feel manic/hypo-manic.

Haha this reminds me of a episode of House I just watched where House is dope sick trying to score vicodin at a doctors office and the doc says gabapentin had been shown to be effective of pain and house flips out saying I got a broken face!! Gaba pentins for nerve pain you Dumbass!! Lol

Oh, didn't know they made tablest, just thought capsules. But same thing should apply, it helps it kick in quicker, as in 45 mins instead of 2-3 hours..same thing with the aleve/ibuprofen. Stagger your doses to because that helps raise the bioavailability. And I remember that episode of house, obsessed with that show right now, he's so dreamy,lol. Also remember the episode where they were giving him Subs to get off Vicodin and he was like "Whoever came up with Buprenorphine should be beat up and shot!" Turns out towards the end he was having the pharmacist sneak him Hydrocodone in prison instead of the Subs,lol. Really reminds me of myself...one thing that did pissed me off about the show was when he started to take Methadone for his leg and everyone around him was acting like it was a death sentence and Methadone was the most evil thing ever created..but by the end of the episode they wanted him on the Methadone,and he was like fuck it give me back my Vicoden,lol.

Lol yea I was thinking fuck I would rather have sub once every 12 or 24 hours rather than vicodan which only lasts for a few hours at most lol I like the episode where he is passing out and not breathing cause he is on methadone too. I agree they gave it a bad name when that was clearly the healthier option for house instead of taking
15 000+mgs of apap each day gobbling down vicodin 24/7 lol I read that a lot of pain patients around that time refused methadone because of that episode saying they didn't want to die haha shows how much people believe everything on that show.
And yea I love the part where he realizes he needs to be in pain and grumpy to be a good doctor so he goes back on vicodan to be miserable again instead of taking methadone not having pain and being happy.

Ya, that's what I was thinking also...guese since it's a TV show and the general public considers Hydrocodone a strong ass opiate they just go with that, like when he got the dead mans oxy from the pharmacy and was like passed out on the floor looking really fucked up and like he was about to die. But that really IRKED me about the methadone, then at the very end they were like 'we want you on methadone now, it's so much better for you" after the whole episode was about that he was going to die and they were threatning to fire him. Ugh, still irks me. Just a TV show though I guese,lol.
