I must begin by saying I am not a user. Many years ago in high school and college I had my drug days, mostly pot, some ludes, cocaine a few times, a night with a nitrous oxide tank. I'm an actor currently rehearsing a character that is addicted to pills, downers. Here's the list Valium, Vicodin, darvon, darvocet, percodan, Percocet, Xanax for fun, OxyContin in a pinch, and dilaudid.

I have questions about how a persons physical behavior is affected or impaired when they are taking just enough to keep an even keel. I assume it is fairly normal yes? And then when they are getting really high. Walking? Slow? Stumbling? Is it akin to being drunk? I'm sure it depends on the drug. Her faves are the valium.

Have you ever found someone's personality to become mean?

she was admitted to a psych ward at one time. Can anyone talk about any aspect of that?
I hope I am not misusing this site. I wish you all the strength in your journey whatever it may be.

I appreciate any experiences you might share with me.
Many thanks,
Fly on the Wall

Welcome to the BL- A Fly On the wall...."it's no secret at all..."
(Sorry I just HAD to finish the lyric there, impossible to resist)
Lyrics aside, all those meds. are...were.. pretty much my lifeline for quite awhile.
No psych ward for me, surprisingly. Probably should have been there on more than a few occasions though.
I hope you find the A's to your Q's.

Unpredictable is more like it the mood swings that come from opiates can be scary to others the user can be irrational and if they don't have the drugs then whooo look out dont stand in a junky's way when they are trying to score. Even when they are just level they still can be unpredictable it just changes the way the mind works. When really high on opiates the user will get bursts of having energy then go to being half asleep when they sit down and relax they could be drooling and looking horrible but inside they feel great that's the feeling opiate addicts live for and chase non stop.

Valium I guess would make you fall asleep or make you stumble like your drunk without the euphoria but all around Valium is very mild and usually doesn't even give any noticeable effects to users it just levels them out.

I was in a psyc ward when withdrawaling from opiates cause i went nuts and wanted to kill myself so I could see that happening with your character

Is oxycodone a downer? I always thought it was an upper because I could clean all day with that. It made me high.
Hmm, maybe I don't know the difference between an upper and a downer.

Hey welcome to Bluelight :)

Try looking for some of the mega threads in Other Drugs, I reckon you will find some of the information you are looking for, or if you would like, try making a thread over in there and I'm sure you'll get some support.

Here's the link, good luck with your role it sounds interesting, I'd be keen to hear more about it if you get some time.
