Two frightening incidents of vandalism in El Paso near the Mexican border in Texas have been interpreted as warnings from drug cartels.

In both instances, a mannequin wearing a suit and tie was tied to a billboard with a noose and messages were scrawled over the placards.

Local station KHOU reports that one of the signs reads 'Plata o Plombo' which translates to 'silver or lead', a threat used commonly against police officers effectively warning that if they do not accept the cartel's bribes then they will be shot.

'This symbol has historically been used by Mexican drug cartels to threaten or intimidate Mexican citizens, business owners and government officials; however, we have never experienced this in El Paso,' local police said in a press release about the vandalism.

The fear now for many is that the 'warnings' shows that the drug cartels- which have not been identified by name- are willing to bring the violence from Mexican border towns into Texas.

While a warning from drug lords seems like one of the most likely prospects, KHOU reports that prosecutors have another theory that the vandalism also could have been caused by activist groups working against the war on drugs.

Sounds like they're in denial.

"No, it can't be! America's streets are safer than that! Clearly it's those drug users who want the laws changed! And they must be doing it whenever they don't have the money to buy their fix and are in the middle of a withdrawal! Yep, we solved the case boys! Back to the game!"

It's just a theory, bro.

It's these types of knuckleheaded theories which have resulted in bureaucratic decisions being made, in which the consequences have manifested themselves as countless drug war-related tragedies across the US and south of the border. Tragedies which many BLers saw coming well in advance, but apparently the "experts" seemingly did not, as usual.

violence starting to spill over into texas. OH they get a little uptight at potential violence towards "justice" officials.. there is already a whole bunch of drug war violence going down in Texas and against her citizens.

I like how "Cartels in Texas?" is a question like we don't a 100% definitive answer that the cartels operate throughout the state and country.

Right? Everyone knows cartels run shit here in Texas and a lot of other states too. Shit will never end. What do people expect when you have two countries with an enormous gap in standard's of living right next to eachother, with one being able to supply the others demands for drugs.

I agreed what is said above. You are 100% good here that what do people expect when you have two countries with an enormous gap in standard's of residing right next to eachother.

Let's not forget that the federal government has been working with the Sinaloa cartel for years in exchange for info on all the others.

They were allowed to operate with impunity. Where is that fucking link? Will post when I find it.

The Texas/Mexico border is very porous and you don't have to be in Mexico to run into cartel members. You might run into them often and never know it.

In Chihuahua, Mexico most average people are just plain scared to do or say anything and the entire subject is spoken about in hushed tones. That's because they will kill you or worse, your children or relatives.

Near my mother's village a woman on a farm was murdered bc she refused to give up her land to the local cartel. These guys truly don't fuck around, and they are around. Everywhere.

A construction crew I worked with were from Guatamala and the main guys father back home was killed and cut up BC he wouldn't give his land up to the local narrcos so the guy and his brother flew to Guatamala and killed the guy that killed their father and beheaded him then flew home. Fucking crazy. Life is cheap in certain places.

Yeah, it's fucking crazy. A 2nd cousin of mine or something, I don't know all the in-laws relatives in Mexico very well, was almost kidnapped by cartel members and she only escaped by kicking and holding onto a fence until they attracted too much attention and left. I hate the 'War on Drugs'. Its just put all the drug money into the hands of truly dangerous people when it doesn't have to be like that.

EDIT: I'm stoned. The reason I was posting was b/c an uncle of mine had his father killed in front of him when he was 14-15-ish and got fucked up and angry one night when he was much older, borrowed an Uzi, and shot up dude's house. His shots all missed. He had to pay them off or something. Try and explain yourself out of that situation! I can't even fucking imagine, except that it actually happened.
