Snorting Palcohol Is a Bad Idea, Say People Who Have Snorted Palcohol

Once again, we have journalists to thank for braving the front lines of a new frontier: powdered alcohol. And warning us of the dangers this monster could inflict on our sinuses. Geniusly called “Palcohol,” the product is set to hit the market soon. Palcohol has a lot of opponents—including New York senator Chuck Schumer who called it “absurd” “ludicrous” and “scary” and called on the FDA to keep it off shelves based on “obvious health risks.”
One of the main concerns is that people will try to snort it. Which the CEO of Palcohol addressed in this weird 17-minute video in defense of the product. ”Snorting it is VERY painful. It burns. A LOT. It hurts,” he says in the video. “Why would anyone choose to spend an hour of pain and misery to snort all of this powder to get just one drink in their system?”
Well, for one: kids these days. Though, it’s not so much kids but two fully-grown adults (that we know of) who have boldly gone where no soul has gone before by making and snorting their own powdered booze. They’ve both documented their experiences, and it seems about as much fun as water boarding.
Jeremy Glass over at Supercompresser, didn’t wait around for Palcohol to hit stores. He got crafty: “found a recipe online, ordered an ass-ton of Tapioca Maltodextrin from Amazon, threw in some grain alcohol and, yes, obviously snorted it.”
He said the intoxicating effects were mild—”it would take a lot of this stuff to mess you up”—but the pain was not. “The bit that I pounded up my smell-hole burned like the time I snarfed Goldsclhäger,” he wrote, ”I ended up with a righteous headache that made the proposition of a second round extremely unappetizing. The taste though? It was like powdered sugar’s convicted sex offender cousin. It dissolved quickly, but burned like… well, alcohol.” Cool.
Speaking of cool, over at Vice, writer River Donaghey also whipped up his own version of powdered booze, which he ate straight, put on pizza, and set on fire before railing lines of the stuff.
This is what happened next:
“I was immediately plugged up. The fumes burned inside my nose, but only for the first minute or so. After that came an uneasy numbness. Maybe all the nerve endings were dead. There was no one left to sound an alarm.
The headache was still present—a throbbing pressure at my temples—but the powder drunk was giving me a weird, out-of-body feeling. If you like headaches and gummed-up sinuses and numb, dissociative drunks, you’re going to go apeshit for powdered booze.”
Who doesn't love a sinus infection all rolled up with the most terrible cocaine high in history!?
