I totally agree. This is our planet to share. Why should someone's place of birth dictate how his or her life is likely to pan out? What gives me the right to a cushy life in Britain, just because it's where I happen to have been born, while someone else is condemned to a life of poverty and misery because he was born in a "third world" country?
My lack of articulacy frustrates me sometimes. I wish I could convey my thoughts half as poetically as SHM, Shambles, Sam and the others.

I was in no way being poetic unless you count injoke pix as poetry. KLF folks are godmen to me but couldn't resist a wee reminder they are part of the history of art too.
I totally agree on the sentiment though. UKIP have been campaigning heavily around these parts. I've not actually read any of the shite they've stuffed through me doorflap thus far. Was saving it for a rainy day when in need of cheering up. Or ranting. Both are fine by me. As is plastering grey paint over their posters.

Fuck. Am just reading the UKIP booklet leaflet (they do go on a bit don't they 8() and seems we're in the schtuck. Did you know we allow foreign criminals to roam the land because they own a cat? We do. FACT! Why are prisoners allowed a vote at all in fact? Surely they shouldn't count? FACT! "The UK has a proud tradition of liberty and freedom. If we leave the EU, we can also withdraw from the European Court of Human Rights.". Fukkin Human Rights. What do we want with that foreign muck?
We give money in aid to countries as revolting as Turkey, Serbia, Albanis, Armenia, Libya and even Ukraine!!! What are we thinking. Fuck them too. And their human rights. Or lack thereof. They don't quite explain that bit but sure it makes good common sense.
Green policies? Fuck them too. They cost money and we could instead just ignore that shit and let the market decide the rate independently of any control... which will surely save both us money and keep the place worth living in. Why wouldn't it?
4000 people come to the UK every week from the EU. Many of them charging decent prices for work our own people take the piss for or simply never bother turning up at all. It's a disgrace. I want nothing to be fixed for ten times the money. It makes sense. Vote UKIP

And I don't buy the tory theory that "they'll do jobs that are too hard for the english you know". I'm old enough to remember pre-2003 and somehow all the work that needed doing in the UK got done. I don't remember anyone screaming "We need millions of east europeans to do all this work". It's just a way of driving wages through the floor and making the poverty stricken even poorer. Fuck them off.

I'm not even gonna dignify the "country is full up" comment with a response - do you really think that or are you just doing the defence of the Heil cos at least it ain't the Grauniad thing again? The country is not full up - there's plenty of space but no fukker is building on it cos they're too busy hoarding it to drive up rents/housing prices. Wages are not the issue either - people should be paid a decent wage but if the minimum wage is held back at mid-90s levels for 20-odd years it's hardly a surprise folk are skint really.

Agree with free immigration on principle as payback for our colonial past; we're still as rich as we are (6th richest country?!) due to leftovers of that extracted wealth (and controlling the city of london banking scam (and arms)).
However, immigration in its current form is a typical neo-liberal policy to cheapen labour costs (like their other fave 'outsourcing'), with the added bonus of stirring up division and undermining working class politics (which is also UKIP's role). It's the very same elite scumbags that make political capital out of immigation through their media organs that economically benefit from it; for them, the 'benefit' to the country is in the form of corporate profits from cheaper wages ('which will trickle down, honest').
imo we benefit culturally and socially from more races living here, but we should be prepared to pay them (and us) fair wages, and build the needed infastructure or there will be social issues (probably the plan though). The EU's job should be to make its members pay decent living wages rather than facilitate mass immigration as a race to the bottom to create a 'flexible labour market' (but the eu is largely a neoliberal organ)). and we've got plenty of room if we do a bit of 'land reform', zimbabwe style, to get the common land back...

Other than that, I agree with what you said. We have no right to be bitchin about folk living here after we've shafted half the world for centuries. We owe a lotta people a lot. We can afford it. We could make it work much better than may be the case at times. It's a choice to make it a problem but it's not me making that choice. Nor many (any?) of the rest of us likely to be around these parts. Problems come from excessive greed and lack of giving a fuck about anybody or anything other than themselves way "above" us. Those people are the problem not a few immigrants.
