I also happened to study the Use of Force in International Law... I think you'll find, Post-Iraq, any government in its right mind is extremely unlikely to put troops on the ground without vested British interests... it would be political suicide. They instead will use the RAF & Navy.

The point that interests me is that the Queen is neutral Politics wise... therefore we won't really know what would happen if Scotland did become independent. We would have to invite her to become our head of state. The difference to the Commonwealth is she already was & they chose to keep her. We don't get that choice, she is Queen of the United Kingdom, which we will no longer be part of.

Also, in the military you swear your allegiance to the Queen. For Queen & country blah blah.... so technically, they wouldn't belong to Scotland despite the fact they are based here - I'm not sure whether she would release them or if they would have to serve the remainder of their commission or whatever the equivalent is for soldiers, I should really know that. Has anything been said about the military, I'm really not following what's going on.

We were only a baw hair away from piling into Syria not too long ago.

I have to admit that's news to me about the queen. Why the fuck would we be doing that then? I thought we would have had to have changed something else to patch the queen so it was one step at a time kind of thing. Get her fucking bounced an all then, the stupid cunt.

*EDIT* - I've no idea whether we would remain part of the Commonwealth or not actually... a quick Google search suggests not automatically.

In fact... very few people are truly informed any more. Even in my Government & Law class, very few people really knew much about politics... we just heard it was an easy course.

Hell, even I'm not very well informed.... I lost interest in politics long ago after realising how little say we actually get in the big matters.

I think even if independence does fail the good thing is that it's got a lot of people to pay more attention to politics. Back when the referendum first got announced I had fuck all interest in politics and wouldn't have bothered my arse to vote one way or the other.


That's plenty anyway. Game of Thrones time.

Yes, every single officer in the Australian army is commisioned by the British monarch. I'm pretty sure it's you that doesn't understand how this works.

Like I said earlier, I was playing Devil's advocate for the sake of argument, the reality of the situation is that a similar deal to how the oz army works will most likely be signed. If she wanted to, the queen could over rule any form of parliamentary orders though. She is the supreme commander of the Australian army, all the officers within it are acting on her behalf.
