Gibberings CLXV - Reported for being racist against drugged up clowns

Actually i'll edit that to "could be considered racist", take it whatever way you want its just an abbreviation to me

I believe there has to be intent for racism to occur. A word is just a word without context. That said the a problem arises when people dont really know you so dont know your intent. Plenty of my black mates dont mind if you drop the n-bomb around them (not that anyone really makes a point of doing so). I dont think they would be too pleased (understatement) if some random bloke was slinging it about though or even if friends were using it in a hurtful vindictive way.

Its usually best to just err on the side of caution then there will be no misunderstandings and everyone is happy.

There's a significant history behind the word 'nigger' which isn't there with white trash - which is probably more classist than racist and is used by various races - although I agree both aren't great things to say. Anyone can be racist but this current slide in EADD to 'bloody foreigners' is getting a bit uncomfortable. If someone came up to me and called me a 'fucking dyke' is that ok? Nope. So.

Everyone go look at the 'European and African' bit of the forum subtitle and have a bit more empathy.

Yeah there's kind of a history of repression and abuse that the word nigger connotes that a racial slur like cracker has no grounding in.

Nigger-fuck now I'm remembering the hundreds of years of slavery and abuse my ancestors suffered.

Cracker- oh no I'm a white person who has suffered all the appalling privleges that go along with it.


I'm far from being an overly liberal grauniad leader, but if you can't see the difference there then you're simple.

I see the difference. But leave the derogatoriness out eh "if you can't see the difference there then you're simple." Would you put that line in a university paper? I don't think you'd get very far if you did, would you? Kindly don't speak to me in that manner, thank you.

As I said, what you are saying makes sense. However, again to use the Jade Goody (which I don't like doing as sadly she's no longer with us) example, both women were using words, at that moment with the intent on harming the other - in a racial manner. So in this respect, meanings and histories, aside, they are the same.

She called Jade "white trash,". I find that to be racist - and you could be a bit more respectful as she is now dead due to cancer, leaving two sons behind. Her relatives / friends could quite easily be on this site n it wouldn't be very nice for them to read insulting things about her, would it?

Evey, Jade was a bellend. She was hated, then for cancer, then was liked.

She was pretty vile to Shilpa Shetty and deserved to be called white trash in retaliation.

What does white trash even mean to a non-American anyway? Certainly not enough to get wound up over
 
Find me a source that attributes that quote to shilpa shetty. I think you will struggle.

Does the fact someone has died mean im not allowed a negative opinion of them? How she died has nothing to do with it.

I don't wish to speak with someone who is going to insult the dead when its possible their friends / relatives could read this n be upset. There's no need to be so disrespectful.

I find them both to be as bad as one another - but the example was to
Argue a point about racism - not to slag off a dead persom.

Don't have a single opinion on anything then in case someone somewhere get offended.

What about if Shilpa's family are reading this when you are accusing her of saying something she didn't?

Brought it up. The media twisted the situation as is often the case in this country lately.
