How much volume do you inject for an IV?
Looking around for info about syringes and needles, the volume I'm using is more than 10x the capacity of many of the syringes (or so I think), so I'm just curious as to what's typical.

What are you injecting? That sounds a bit odd.

I usually use 40-50 units per shot.

~~> Basic

A pharmaceutical product for a condition. I'm doing about 15 mL at a time. When you say units, you mean 1 mL = 100 units, right?

Sorry for the noob question about units, but the amount of drug I take is measured in units, and it has nothing to do with the volume.

It totally depends on the solubility of the drug in question! I can't imagine using 15ml of water to dissolve ANYTHING. You shoot too much water into your veins and it messes with the sodium levels in the blood and makes you absolutely miserable!

^bull shit 50 ml syringes don't come that big

Yes they do. But they are kinda ridiculous. I grew up on a farm and we had reeeeally big syringes for cattle and horses. I think the biggest was 100ml, but there might have been bigger ones. Now, bear in mind these are for cattle and horses which are several hundred pounds larger than any normal human being, and it would be insane to use 50ml (50cc) to shoot dope.

Fifty milliliters is about like a large egg worth of liquid. I don't shoot dope, because all I can get is stepped on tar and I'd need to shoot a lot of it at one and it's dirty, but if I did the largest syringe I would use is 5ml.

I'm pretty sure the drug has salt and some other stuff in it, which is why it's listed as units (biological activity) and not mg.

Just for clarification...

1mL = 1 CC(cubic centimeter) = 100 units....15mL = 1,500 units, 100mL = 10,000 units, again 1 CC = 100 units = 1 mL

And I know the OP isn't talking about dope, but generally you need about 50 units per .1 of dope, I use 60-70 usually, but I know a lot of people who use 35-40 units, if I know it's fire shit I use 80 to make sure because I've always operated under the assumption that heroin had similiar solubilities to morphine and it takes 100 units of water to easily dissolve 70mg of pure morphine.(someone correct me if I am wrong)

Thanks Coolwhip, that helps quite a bit when reading over some of the IV posts.

200 units usually because I got tremors and sometimes spill, don't want my drugs to get lost. Though it was a long time since I injected anything now.

MAXIMUM solubility of Morphine Sulfate is 60mg/ml, hence why ampoules of the stuff usually don't come stronger 10mg/ml (though there are exceptions). Morphine Diacetate (Heroin), however, because of it's two acetyl groups, makes it MUCH MUCH more water soluble. This is also the reason why it's more fat soluble than morphine causing it to cross the blood brain barrier much more rapidly, and causing the potency to increase as much as it does.
