Greetings All. Been reading for a long while and finally decided to join in. If anyone has a moment, could an old-timer or educated Moderator-type please explain the rule in which using SWIM, my dog, etc., is not really a good idea here. I see that everywhere and thought it was actually the hard and fast rule. Am I reading stuff wrong? Are we just ourselves, or are we SWIMs/my dogs? :? Thanks so much in advance and happy posting.

Welcome, the thing with SWIM is just that it's annoying and people tend to try to use it to not incriminate themselves, (and fail). It's just really annoying reading paragraphs full of 'SWIM', or 'my pet', or 'a dick that isn't mine' when it's so obvious the poster is talking about himself not someone else. People tend to skip posts like those.

If you have issues you want to talk about you can do so openly without being judged in several of the sub-forums, and this is obviously a drug forum so drug discussion isn't discouraged or looked down upon.

I agree with this. Welcome to the site.

Thanks for the info. I'm not too prolific at being third-person or the whole "I'm in denial" about my wicked evil sorted past/present or future, so I'm relieved I'm me rather than my cousin's sister's ex-husband's ex SO. %)

And thanks to you who welcomed me in..or on...the site!

Ace innit?!!! Yea I agree it's better in the first person. I was on a few sites like that, got confused n stopped bothering with them as it was taking more effort just to de-code the language.

Please let us know if you need help with anything.
