Film What's the Last Film You Saw? v. Tell Us What You Thought!

It was based on the book the Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley. I don't often recommend books, but I recommend this book to anyone. It was not only an extremely interesting read, but it was a very influential book.

Wow, I just started reading this book this week.

I've seen the film quite a few times though, great stuff.

Anyone else impressed by Oculus? Seen it today and was not expecting very much, but was pleasantly surprised. I wanted to see Afflicted but its not playing around here yet.

I don't know, I just thought it was very well put together and way more original than 95% of horror movies these days.

I haven't seen any horror or scary movies for a while now. I think that's the one category that I really haven't watched much the last few years. That and Westerns. This girl I dated for a while loved scary movies and we used to see them in the theater if any came out, so I think it's just a bad relation between the two. Plus, seeing them in the theaters lead to frequent disappointment.

Examples include the remake of Prom Night, Mirrors (though I did make fun of that quite often after, so there was a plus), The Ruins, The Happening, My Bloody Valentine 3D, A Haunting in Connecticut, etc. There are actually more, but I think the point is made. That's a terrible list. I don't think I would rewatch any of those movies.

What are some recommendations for scary/horror movies that have come out from 2010 to now? Insidious? The Conjuring?

Yeah, those two. Also Cabin in the Woods (by far my favorite in the last 10 years or so) and the Evil Dead remake. As far as those you mentioned they are down near the bottom of the barrel. The Ruins had a few good parts, but other than that...

I'll go on record as saying I'm not really a Wes Anderson fan. His films are a little too quirky and uber subtle with their humor. Having said that, this film blew me away! Ralph Fiennes was fucking hilarious and enduring and completely owned the film. I disliked his character the first five minutes he was on screen. But the more time you spend with him, the more you grow to love this incredibly flawed character. I can't recommend this film enough!

Also, Tony Revolori, the actor who played Zero, is definitely an actor to keep your eye on. I think he has a bright future ahead of him, if this film is any indication.

The newest Muppet film. I mostly went to see it because my nieces & mother were going, but it wasn't bad. And then Tina Fey plays a Gulag guard. omfgggggg..........

watched the movie Big Fan starring Patton Oswalt.

It is about a die-hard New York Giants fan who meets his favorite player only to get physically assaulted by him. Honestly, that is about the funniest part of the whole movie, the premise itself. There are a few laughs to be had here and there (especially if you listen to any local sports radio at all), but for the most part it is a lot of drawn out sequences that leave you kind of waiting for them to end.

I dont dislike Patton Oswalt as an actor, I just cant really see him as the main character of any movie.

It was just very bland to me, like I've seen it before. I suppose there's only so much you can do with ghost/supernatural films, but it seems like they would adapt past just slamming doors and moving things around by themselves. I enjoyed the original Paranormal Activity when I first saw it, I suppose because it was a different kind of supernatural horror film.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Unfortunately there are very few original ideas left in horror (cant imagine living through all the freddy/jason/michael movies back in the day). Personally, I thought what The Conjuring lacked in originality was overshadowed by basically every other aspect of the film.

going to be watching Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia at some point in the next day or two. apparently its a love/hate kind of movie so im not sure what to expect. I dont hate any movie really because im sure someone out there thought any movie was good, I just hate wasting my time watching something when I get the feeling halfway through like "yeah this movie is retarded bro" but try to give it a full chance and then it ends im pissed

watched captain phillips over the weekend.

thought it was excellent. oddly, i was not that familiar with the story, especially the details of the ending, so it was pretty tense all the way through for me. hanks was great.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

the story picks a duo to travel with, but gives quick tastes of all kinds of fantastic along the way. "i need to see it again" is what i think after most movies of any intrigue. it is particularly applicable to this film. glimpses are given of this world as the two characters flee through. i was in the theater and really missed the rewind button. wes anderson pokes fun at story telling -- the series of events through an oral story through a book through a film. and actually the series of events are (on the surface) a character sketch told by the sidekick. i wasn't paying enough attention at the beginning and i'm not sure how much i'm just not supposed to know about that grave and the book -- which i assume is written by the guest, wait, fuck, now i remember some guy telling us about story telling. yeah, i need to see it again.

agatha is the most frustrating withheld. after googling the actress, it is confirmed it is the character who's captivating. nothing against saoirse ronan, who makes the wonderful character possible. agatha reminds me of inez. with Bottle Rocket, i am attracted to the characters' attraction to one another. in The Grand Budapest Hotel, i am attracted to both the characters' mutual attraction and definitely agatha herself.

i was really surprised to see léa in the credits. 4:3 made the picture so small, didn't even notice.

Kamikaze Girls

shame i waited so long to see this movie because of an off-putting title. godard (themes explored), argento (visuals), araki (plot & dialogue) must have worked together on this one under the pen name tetsuya nakashima. it is targeted at a younger audience, as the punk rock title suggests. long as that's not too embarrassing, this movie is pretty and fun.

and her outfits are so fucking cute. a side ... the clothing trend lolita's first strike with me is the name itself. i think it is an allusion to the novel, and i don't think it's commentary reflecting the narration's contrasting reality and presentation. second, it has the connotation of being nerdy and in result lacks the amateur models to catch my attention. third and worst strike, it looks bad. cheap, costume-y, classless. not at all the case with momoko's wardrobe. ornate yet precise. it's doll. a little bit of googling reveals that's because baby, the stars shine bright is a real boutique and the author, who was surely involved with the film, is a fashion designer. whose line is no longer sold at baby, the stars shine bright because of a marijuana controversy. according to wikipedia. getting off topic. really cute outfits. more. beautiful clothes.

should i go through with this divorce? isolate myself from you?

humans are cowards in the face of happiness. you need courage to hold on to happiness. how old are you?

thirty-three.

it’s your last chance. to grasp happiness. don’t miss it.

momoko!

take his love and make yourself beautiful. get breast implants and beauty treatments, and enter beauty contests.

why?

it’s fun.
on godard, bluntly stating humans think and die alone. then showing a slight will to delve deeper and explain, "what about friends or lovers? wouldn't you miss your parents or kids?" "meaningless words, just like 'janitor' or 'president.'" later, joking about everyone sharing the thought, "it has to be you."

i cannot find it now, but there is a line about either the main character or the clothing line being like a tiny piece of cake. i can't quite remember it and can't come up with any version that delivers. i already sealed the netflix envelope, so hopefully it's in the novel and the translation is similar.
