Animal Rights Activists Exploiting Prejudice Against People With Addiction

Honestly though, does anyone really believe we shouldn't conduct these experiments that could potentially cure all illness? People who are against research are degenerate beings. I have a relative with tenure in neurobiology, they have enough ethics regulations for rat experiments let alone human ones.

It's a cost benefit analysis at the very least, ethics aside. I am against an open license to kill whatever you fancy with there mere possibility it might cure some illness. For both ethical and practical reasons. No one said we shouldn't conduct such experiments, but that we should do so in a reasonable way. If you knew more about biomedical research and neuroscience you understand why an open license to use animals as you suggest isn't the best idea - not so much for the animals used but more so for us specifically. Might not be actually counter productive in most cases, but the vast majority of the time it doesn't actually accomplish anything.

People who are against research are degenerate beings.

So I guess you weren't kidding... :\

You could make exactly the same arguments for torture (that the imagined ends make the means more or less irrelevant, and than anyone who doesn't agree with you is a terrorist).

I meant people who had had a blanket opposition to research that may cause an animal pain or discomfort, Jesus Christ...

Stop straw man-ing me. I am not talking about frivolous experiments andor nazi-style over-the-top experiments with little hope of serving any purpose.

i think animal rights is an idiotic thing to fight for considering how bad the state of human rights/humanity is. i love my dogs and whatnot but shit i'm not even against dog-fighting for example. the worst is the fight for veganism, humans are not vegitarians much less vegans. COMPLETE waste of energy, sometimes i think these animal rights people are into bestiality or something.

heres a track about it: immortal technique beef and brocolli

yes they are

Human Rights and Animal Rights are NOT mutually exclusive (although the term "animal rights" is a bit disingenuous, something of an anthropomorphism).

Problem as I see it is that animal rights groups and movements are they're commonly understood as such (for instance as they are here in this thread) are on the more extreme end of the continuum. Just like what seems to be more represented in this thread - the "fuck-all-the-animals" sentiment - is on the other end of the continuum's extreme.

The kind of animal rights I'm for is against factory farming, for instance. THAT shit is destroying our planet and communities, not to mention leading to a whole host of other human specific catastrophes (to name just one, think obesity).

As a deep ecologist I'm for animal rights, but probably not as anyone who has posted thus far understands it. Look up deep ecology. I believe even wikipedia gets okay.

For instance, I have no problem eating meat. I enjoy it (I love ALL food, possibly minus live bugs) and consider meat a healthy part of my diet. Eating meat is good, after all, short of some medical condition that complicates things, as descendants from hunter-gatherers, human beings are mostly omnivores (not that there is anything wrong with being a vegetarian, pescatarian, etc). But I'm careful about the meat I eat. I'm careful about what kind of meat I eat, how much of it I eat and how often I eat it.

Just cause it's okay to eat meat doesn't mean it's okay to eat any/as much meat from whatever source you might impulsively desire.

Yeah they are awful.. we have cow factories near where I am and its just plane gross.. I think on of the biggest things is how much water they draw washing down the manure into huge manure lakes, which is then trucked back to all the farms.. place smells bad and cant be good for any part of the environment.

^And the land they're on can never be reclaimed for any other use... literally great way to fuck up the earth

^i'm also against farming but don't give a fuck how the animals are treated, it's just bad for people and the planet.

How we treat animals says a lot about how we treat other human beings... Think of it as practice. Doesn't really matter what your reasons are, but tends to be what is good for animals is good for humans, and vice versa.

It's a lot like the Dostoevsky quote, "The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons."

You could very well say, "The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its farms/biolabs/psych wards."

Really good barometer imho.

You missed the point I was making. Maybe I wasn't clear. I was saying that the state of certain institutions, such as our agriculture/farming, biochemical research and mental health treatment (like how addicts are treated), says a lot about our society at large.

I never equated the mentally ill with animals, although I can understand how strong the reaction to someone actually having done so would be (rightly so, that would be fuuuucked up on so many levels).

"potentially cure all illness"?
Yeah right. And people who advocate ethical treatment of animals are have a tentative grasp on reality, yeah?
Thanks for the science lesson.
As a proud (strong and healthy) "idiot" vego, it is good to see the best you guys can come up with is "what if" arguments and a generous side serving of personal abuse. Keep it up, seriously <3

...so where exactly do you think food comes from?
You advocate all humans return to a hunter-gatherer lifestyle?!

That's very interesting, I've never come across this before.

To quote the great Bard;
"I cannot fight upon this argument; it is too starved a subject for my sword."

Okay, try and give me an example of an illness that animal testing would not contribute to the cure of. I dare you.

I don't know what kind of feminized, man-gina with low muscle mass from your protein deficient diet you are, but I think it is affecting your cognition. You pathetically make reference to science. We evolved to eat meat. Evolution didn't get it wrong somehow, that does not make sense. Even if you are too much of a pussy to stomach it, your stomach is still designed to digest it and only meat (and milk) has every type of protein together. Veganism is a mental disease caused by a sheltered, hardship-free, indulgent life of luxury.

So you can't give me an example. Telling...

Instead of showing me how I am incorrect you pitifully try to reverse my bias accusation. You can't even defend your point of view, lol.

I don't have to explain myself to you, pal.
I skim read your garbage, at best, so I actually don't know what you're asking.
Just thought I'd point out your hypocrisy, even though I know you're very sensitive about people disagreeing with you.

So you admit defeat but refuse to change your indefensible position. Please kill yourself. You are just dressing up the fact that you are full of shit and want to dodge trying to defend a belief that can't be defended.
