Dentist gear

I'm quite interested to hear any dentist tales, no matter how dark!

Let this be a thread for all and any dentist related capers.

I worked on an aboriginal settlement and one day this woman came in complaining of pain in her jaw and back of her head. She turned around and apparently her drunk aunt had stabbed her in her sleep with a butter knife, which was still sticking out.

I was training in Colombia last year and one of the guys I was assisting raised a flap but because the patient had no teeth and a very flat palate he sliced the shenopalatine artery and blood squirted across the room and hit the wall. It took 20 minutes to control the bleeding but we still performed sinus surgery.

Whenever a patient calls in late I always add 15 minutes to when they say they will arrive and I'm always right.

Young women never consider the length of their skirt when they attend the dentist. It is difficult when you look away from the curing light when all you have in front of you is cookie peeking from under their mini skirt. A girl the other day had stay classy tattooed high on her thigh. She wasn't really.

The spittoon is for you to rinse your mouth, not for clearing your throat and hock a loogy

Don't hand me your denture/broken tooth/spit cover whatever if I'm not wearing gloves. My receptionist doesn't want it dumped on her desk either.

No matter how much agony you are in, that tooth I told you needed to be fixed 3,6 or 12 months ago that has now broken is not an emergency. You made the decision to ignore me you so you can wait until Monday morning.

You hate dentist? I hate whinging cunts who don't tell anyone they have no money and want to organise a payment plan after I have spent 1hr getting you out of pain. You need food to live but no one ever walks to to check out with $200 of groceries and asks to pay it off $10/ week starting next month.

OTW,what is the drug that dentists inject into the gums before getting to work on the teeth?
I've always been surprised at just how well it numbs my mouth from feeling any pain when having a tooth extracted.

Lignocaine/lidocaine/novocaine - one of several *caine drugs (I think those are actually all the same drug - first two are anyway). That's what I've seen on the vials my dentist uses anyway (I actually swiped some once many years ago before I had much of a clue about things and wondering if any recreational value if injected into veins instead of gums - answer being most definitely not and probably quite dangerous (I got palpitations and they are bad for the heart)).

Lignocaine with adrenaline for 80% of patients, something like Scandonest 3% if they have high blood pressure. If I want a really deep numb I might use articaine as well but that does have the added risk of causing permanent numbing if you use it as a block so I usually just bang it beside the tooth if they have trouble going completely dead.

Bupivacaine/marcaine lasts up to 20 hours so sometimes we might use that following major surgery like plating a broken jaw or sinus lift.

i think it depends on where you are and the local customs... in some places in europe they will write you some benzos if they think they may be of use to you. take it from me though, the pain will still be there with only benzos.

where im at, they dont give you anything for pain post-op other than antiinflamatories. maybe tramadol. maybe. ice packs help too if put on early and kept for hours.

I never bother with benzo's. Good double dose of nitrous oxide has even the most timid persons floating in heaven. If they are really bad they pay for a proper anesthetist and knock them out cold.

Be warned though, I knew a surgeon who would check out your boobs as soon as you were under.

awww you've said so much to be me at ease you fucking torturing, evil scum! ;)

OMG that was just slightly hilarious! OTW's previous post has already rendered this thread uninhabitable to me! Made me go white, that spurting blood story :o

I ain't scared of shit, except the Dentist... & the cold. That's it I think.

OTW - i have a tooth thats broken off. The root is still there but it has never caused me any pain. Do I need to do anything about it ?

PS - will quite happily pay for your advice

Not even DHC here. Nothing for pulled teeth - just advised to take ibuprofen when you get home and not to eat for four hours. Must admit I don't have an issue with that either cos unless you have a butcher for a dentist it shouldn't be painful. You're anaesthetised for the extraction and by the time that wears off it's a bit of throbbing at worst. Not even that usually. (Have had all wisdom teeth pulled and got another extraction due at the end of the month so am quite familiar with extractions - they really don't hurt at all)

As long as it isn't nerve pain I wouldn't care.

fack orf !

Lesson for today : Don't pick the brains of a man who moans about skirts being too short

There is such a thing as too much thigh. Not every woman has the legs to display their cookie. Don't believe the feminist hype, thigh gap is a good thing.

If I have to wear closed in shoes in the surgery I doubt my patients should be wearing a bikini in a name of workplace health and safety.

Presumably the one trolls live under.

The homosexual is strong in you Shambles

I'd say of moderate strength. There's general interest but tends to fizzle in reality.

I also think you've misunderstood my comment.

Top and bottom pic are too skinny for me. I do realise the ridiculousness of that comment given my Mrs Shambles. I never posted pix of her though and some things are unavoidable. Preferences are also deeply mutable given <3.
