.....its been 29 days without that garbage handcuffing me to the clinic but I am having a very specific stomach issue. With no testing a Dr diagnosed me with gastroparesis but that diagnosis makes no sense. From all I researched that happens while on opioids not after you detox. On methadone everything was great stomach wise. No constipation, huge appetite, weight stayed up, etc etc. Now that I am off when I see or smell food I want it somewhat but in general I have no appetite, still have diareaha (sp.), when I eat, it can be a small meal, it can be a biscuit, it feels like I have a 40 pound brick in my stomach and it feels like my heart is going to pound out of my chest too. Im losing weight as well.

For anyone experienced kicking methadone, is this normal or was this your experience? Friends I know that kicked in jail before said their appetites came back in a couple weeks. They all pretty much say sleep deprivation was the only real lingering symptom. Im getting 5-6 hours a night. Im good there.

To ensure it wasnt a seperate issue I took a 15mg roxi a couple days ago and the symptoms cleared up about 85%. Just had a slight bloaty feeling so I am pretty convinced this is opioid withdrawal related. My thinking is my digestive system became accustomed to processing food on 120mgs of methadone and is slow to get back to homeostatis.

Looking for anyones experience with this. Not looking for a diagnosis of course.

Thanks in advance.

I dont know if i will be much help but i wanted to say congrats on kicking that shit! I couldnt do it... I am clean now but only day 8 from oxy. It sucks to even get this far and still have stomach issues so i can relate somewhat.
Have you tried any medications for this? Does the doc that gave u that diagnosis know your situation?
loperamide was very helpful for me but i was afraid it would make wd last longer so i havent been taking it. You are so far past the acute phase i think maybe you could try it without issues if you take a low dose. Hopefully someone else with more experience can comment on that?
I would tell your doc that the situation is so severe it could lead to relapse, maybe they would be more eager to help.
Did they prescribe any meds to you? Are they helping?
Going back to using isnt the answer, thats the one thing i know for sure. You came to far. Methadone is wicked.

When i looked at everything associated with PAWS I was damned to find anything not in control of the hypothalamus. We all receive our own "blessing" out of this... hunger and appetite are controlled by the hypothalamus.. along with so much else... this will pass. I find it interesting that your appetite was steady on the meds but fucked off.. not to worry this will go away I think. for the mean time you would likely benefit from the use of nutritional shakes. They have decent calories and high nutrition and can be consumed in one large gulp so you do not need an appetite. I would also consider adding a multivitamin as well as vitamin D. This will pass. I got hit hard by the lowest sex drive known to man for a bit which the hypo also controls. So I would just power through and force yourself to eat, and nutritional shakes are on possible solution for a bit.

Nice work on kicking!!!!!!!!!!!!@

Sleep took me a while to even out once I kicked. I didn't shit right for a long time personally. The second I would eat something it would go right through me and my shit didn't become a normal consistency for 2-3 months, it was all just diarrhea. My appetite was minimal for about a month, then gradually got bigger and bigger around 2-3 months I was eating and drinking what I would consider a normal amount. With opiates everyone's different once they kick just stick in there, I'm 15 month clean and everything's worked itself out physically a while ago. Congratulations man and just stick in there

5 months off methadone, sleep is fine, but stomach still not back to normal. Have to clean the toilet several times a day.

Another great post;, understanding the strangle-hold your body has when it is using the hypothalamus to hold us hostage is key to understanding how your body tries to defy the idea of quitting opiates. That's all it got.

Also "Plus One" on the "Ensure,", just get some nutrition, keep it light if that is what your body is telling you.
I have an Ensure along with a Nature's Valley granola bar when my stomach is effed, it keeps me going.
