Note: I know we're supposed to post the article but the only text is only captions, and didn't C&P well.

These pictures are really harrowing, and give an excellent view of addict life on the street.

Photo journalism always makes me think: Voyeuristic / Exploitation

You could say it's more about bringing awareness, but it seems to also reinforce stereotypes and stigma just as much as it actually sheds any light on the issues.

^yea. i didnt like it. the photographer even admitted in the article he would in a sense befriend his subjects.. so much for remaining objective.

I had to travel 20 miles south through the west side every night at 2 am for work. These pictures don't really show much in my opinion

Those photos remind me why I gave up the garbage insulin syringes in the end for a 3ml with a proper .5 inch 26G needle. What the good of using a little bastard if you have to stick yourself 40 times and then it clogs.

But they also remind how grateful I am to be clean from what for me was the curse of opiate addiction. *thanks the universe*

....batman bags....Those were in style BIG time at one point.

if they showed a bunch of people sniffing the shit this article wouldnt even be an article.

"People do heroin in Chicago"

ok?.....

"here's a bunch of pictures of people shooting up, so nasty right?"

ok?....

People view sniffing cocaine as somewhat of a higher class type of drug, is sniffing heroin really that much different?

How typical, the worst-rated comments come from anyone who is pro-decriminalization and/or pro-legalization.

"It's so easy to judge a person's habits when you've never personally had to deal with them yourself." - One example of a "worst-rated comment" from the article, but also very true.

All I know is, I'd rather die trying than give up my rights to do with my body as I wish. Especially when you consider the fact that so many of these prejudiced drug-prohibitionists happen to be the biggest burden to a nation's healthcare system because they are tobacco consumers.

In America alone, every year there are more deaths due to second-hand smoking than all street drug overdoses combined. And every 7 seconds or so, there is one smoking-related death somewhere in the world.

Some people, including myself may not enjoy tobacco and/or alcoholic beverages as means to numb ourselves with. So we resort to other drugs which happen to be illegal for reasons other than those related to health. And drug war or not, we shall continue to do so until the day we either die or decide to quit. And I don't give two shits if that money ultimately goes to some drug cartel in Mexico. If the lawmakers wanna change that, they better start selling their own brand of MDMA, diacetylmorphine, weed, etc. That is, if they aren't already.
