The 10 latest scams to avoid

Don't do what Eve? Reply to the bait? I've said nothing to incur a ban.

10 latest baits to avoid.

GFYA.

It isn't worth it though, SHM. I used to reply to people baiting me n I ended up looking like the bad one. It's best to ignore it honest I'm not trying to be funny with you or owt. I've been there n it's not worth it.

Nowhere fucking near pal, nowhere fucking near.
well, i can definitely agree with you that you have insulted and offended me far more times than i have done the same to you so maybe i'll shoot for 5 or 10 more and then i'll call it even. cool. :)

Come on, SHM, don't do this. You don't want to get temp banned again, do you.
You're welcome to E-mail/pm me if you vent, anything. It was me that mentioned AS as an example of why I disagreed with his post, not Alasdair.

Alasdair - I get what you are saying re taking responsibility n so on, however, if it weren't for people who do these tricks with the computers (scammers), then the scammee (is there a word?) wouldn't have to take responsibility for doing anything wrong/taking incorrect action so thus it is the responsibility of the scammer regardless of disability/ability etc.

shm wants to twist my words to make it look like i'm laughing at autistic people when it's clear to any reasonable observer that's not what's happening here. indeed, i have not even mentioned autism. but, whatever. his view is clouded and all he has is a hammer...

there's a saying that i love because i feel that it says an awful lot in very few words. we've maybe even discussed it before. it's by eleanor roosevelt: "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent".

i think there's a parallel with the scam discussion. i'm not saying that scammers aren't evil and the world wouln't be a better place without them but a scam is a transaction and there are two people involved. it's maybe not a 50/50 thing but a scam can't happen unless the scammed party makes a decision to get involved. you can't really put numbers on this but, for the sake of discussion, maybe when it starts out they're only 2% responsible. then the greed sets in and they think they're getting something for nothing so they're less careful than they might otherwise be and now they're 15% responsible. my point is that people have to take some level of responsibility for their own actions.

if you disagree, that's fine. we can agree to disagree. thanks for discussing civilly and not swearing and insulting because of a simple difference of opinion :)

SHM I've sent you an E-mail.

EDIT. I'm having a drink at mo so probably not best to continue this debate.
I'm kind of sorry I said anything now, I wasn't meaning to cause an argument between anyone, just give an opinion that I thought was needed towards your initial post. Maybe it's just best to, as you say, agree to disagree n leave it there.

Closed. Can't see this going anywhere useful or desirable.

And Re-Opened due to popular demand... well... a couple peeps seem keen to keep open which will suffice for now. Let's try to stay in the vicinity of the topic - more specifically, not the vicinity of bilious off-topic overspill no matter who it may be spilling over from.

On with the scamming...

Well done, Shammy.

^ anybody who answers the phone and blindly follows a stranger's directions to do anything to their own computer deserves whatever happens to them...

alasdair

Abso-fucking-lutely. It's not just Aspergers, other similar traits in people may lead them to being scammed. I am very close to a vulnerable adult who got taken in by the "we're from Microsoft here to fix your computer" brigade.

I find what Alasdair said both ignorant and offensive.

^ lol. no surprise there :) when all you have is a hammer...

i've found a number of things you've said recently ignorant and offensive so a couple more from me and we'll be even. deal? :)

While SHM's agenda of hate often makes him get a fact or 2 wrong... in this particular case he's spot on -

My Mum, is super naïve-gullible type... and recently got tricked into giving credit card details over to a phone-scammer. Despite this, she is a LOVELY person, and I love her dearly despite her imperfections.

So Alasdair's response of "If your stupid enough to give details, you deserve what you get" response I find as extremely cold-hearted. Very cold words...

Protection of the vulnerable is what we need, not persecution!

I have just read all of this and now my head hurts.

I want to be trusted and to be able to trust vs. Everyone is a cunt out there and does that make me a cunt for not being trusting/I may as well as be a cunt too? (very difficult to lead by example?).

Scammers are scum and am not denying or questioning that but it throws up some bigger questions for me.

I don't really have any answers. I wish I did..I want to be trusted yet I trust no-one ...where does that leave the human race?

The horrendous nastiness of the everyday scum scam mentality now trickles into every where and everything.

I don't lend money, I don't borrow money. I trust no-one...and those that should be given the benefit of the doubt..family. old friends are treated by me with extreme suspicion and me questioning their ulterior motives-this is not how I want to choose to live my life but it invades and makes a mockery..we second doubt ourselves even..this makes unbelievably sad.

Well said, raas.

Old people are often vulnerable to scams too. I hear far too many stories of people taking advantage of them. Computer scams can be a particular problem.

A couple years ago my computer locked up and would only display this (SFW):

If you can't read it it's saying that I've visited illegal pornographic sites and have child porn/abuse on my computer, and that I can only regain access if I pay a fine of £100.

A lot gave this away, a few things being:

-I didn't have child porn on my laptop
-"if you don't pay then your hard drive will be wiped".. lol. Somehow I doubt West Yorkshire Police would threaten you by getting rid of evidence.
-The fact that payment has to be sent through U Kash or paysafecard.

Luckily I could still get onto my comp through safe mode and run a virus check which picked it up straight away.

This scam was a bit of a farce but there are clever ones out there that could easily trick people. I know of one that locks your computer then a legit looking pop up says you'll need to buy an antivirus to get rid of it.

Often in hindsight its easy to see something is a scam but in the heat of the moment you panic and make rash decisions.

Ever consider cutting down on the drugs just a little? :)

Wait a minute: this thread was given a fittingly-humane crap-thread-death, only to be brought back? 8)

We really are stuck for entertainment around here, aren't we?

Ever consider cutting down on the drugs just a little?

I think my point was pretty clear as to whether we live a life being trusting in nature and get fucked over for it etc and the link pretty much encapsulated that ...we are all doomed to trust..we are all cunts in one form or another..there is no trust...there is no hope for the human race. Scammers, fighters, haters, scum..the trusting and the naive are in the wrong and therefore they deserve it??? I haven't done drugs in some time and sadly this is clarity..so may as well get back on it really. :D

What is the difference between being trusting and being naive?

That is the link again..just in case. For entertainment purposes only it's not as if any one seemingly intrinsically ever actually changes or makes change. Or even gives a shit.

Fair enough! I guess. :D

Though I don't need to tell you that it can take a while to get anywhere near clarity if you've been hammering the drugs.

Not that I disagree that people are mostly untrustworthy, by the way. That's definitely true. I just think it's better to be able to say so with the conviction of somebody who isn't feeling the aftermath of the weekend's indulgence.

Conviction is mine with that justification then. In the last 6 days I have had 2 Zopiclone and a ibuprofen. Oh and a small Baileys just to be sociable.

Used to love trying to scam people on Runescape when I was a young'un. Good times.

I think my conscience grew proportionally with my height.

=D made a lot of money of White Armor, I think it was called. Cheap to buy, easy to blag as rare.

Probably went a bit too far in some cases. I pretended to be a chick for ages and talk dirty to this rich guy so he'd give me free stuff.

LOL. Carry on...

While I admit my wording isn't too subtle (wineage et al), you clearly hate the guy. lol BUT i'm saying in this instance your point has merit and should not to be mistaken for some kind of personal retribution, which Ali insinuated.
