Having powder inevitably bypass nose into lungs when insufflate

Im adding this line because i want to explain that before i joined BlueLight i found several threads on google, they all had the reference "SWIM" in them, i hadnt read my first private message stating that SWIM was not allowed anymore until after i wrote this. My apologies, from now on when i talk about my friend "swim" i am referencing me.

Aight so, yo. My buddy swim has a really annoying problem when it comes to shoving drugs up his nose. He likes Ritalin the most. But hees realized that if he wants the powder to go where he wants, he has to have a nostril that is half clogged in order for it to work. It obviously cant be fully clogged because shit just doesnt work like that.

Now, swim has told me he has heard many people say that your nose should be clear when snorting drugs. But what swim doesnt get is that no matter how hard he tries, no matter what method he uses, snort slower, snort faster, try a different angle, coat the walls with water or saline before, and after, snort as gentle as humanly possible, swim has even said fuckit and tried to snort it backwards (like how you cure hiccups by drinking water backwards) with no luck.

Unless swim's nostril is half clogged, or has some mucus to catch the incoming powder it will bypass his nostril and find its way into swims lungs (which REALLY makes swim nervous, thinking about lung damage from the fillers, and the fact that swim does have asthma)

Swim would often spray a bunch of saline in his nose and proceed to inhale/exhale repeatedly until it formed sort of a wall or ball of saline mixed with some mucus to catch the incoming specialty goods so they dont fall victim to swims lungs. But sometimes the wall that swim had formed in his nostril will break upon snorting and all the powder will enter his lungs. Or if if the goods are successfully delivered to the wall/ball then swim has to focus on keeping it from falling out of his nose, or into his throat (imagine getting all the drip at once) it grinds swim's gears and he hopes that the reliable and extremely bright minds of the Blue Light Community can help poor Greenlight swim with his problem.

Also swim wonders, since about an hour ago 40mg of ritalin went straight into his lungs, how often would this have to happen to cause damage to his lungs. He wants to know so swim can be safe. Swim knows his limits very well, but has no idea how his lungs would handle the ritalin with the fillers.

PS. Swim thinks he is a ninja so he is having me write this for him. :p fuckin swim, he smokes all my weed too.

EDIT: A few minutes went by and I tried telling swim he should wait for the nice people to reply first, but hees really impatient and now has 60mg in his lungs. Anyways should swim be nervous at the amount that entered his lungs the past hour or two?

Most of it is going through the nasal cavity (where you want it to be absorbed) and into your throat lungs.

It's bad for it to go into your lungs with all those fillers/binders.

Your body is amazingly able to withstand this kind of abuse, but doing it too often, with it getting into the lungs is problematic.

Here is a tip: you are always either breathing more through your left nostril or your right nostril. Figure which one is 'closed', by holding you finger over each respective nostril and breathing to test them, and use that one. That will make most of the substance reach your nasal cavity and not your lungs.

I have had problems like this in the past and actually resorted to tilting my head back and pouring the powder down my nose.

Thanks for your advice Katuskoti.

It leaves me baffled, I have tried everything and read other peoples experience with snorting. I feel like my nasal cavity is larger than others, or sometimes think that the problem could be because of a tonsillectomy I had a few months back. They cut a huge portion out of my throat, as they said my tonsils had a chronic infection and were swollen for a while.

Also now that I think about it my problem could have started when I was a little kid. I remember playing in the woods with my friend when we found a water bottle with a shit ton of chlorine tablets that had dissolved in it. The bottle had been closed shut with the chlorine tablets completely dissolved for a couple months. Being young and dumb I opened the bottle and took a sniff. The instant I inhaled through my nose I got an extreme burning sensation in my nose and down my throat. A couple seconds later I threw up, again, and again, until nothing was coming out except for stomach acid. It also caused a severe asthma attack that my inhailer couldn't even seem to help. Since then my sense of smell has been off, maybe my nostrils got wider due to the damage.

Whatever it may be, I still appreciate some more suggestions and information.

It's really not good to snort pills and irritate your lungs when you have asthma. Probably a lot of it ends up in your stomach anyway.

Whether you're talking about your friend or yourself, don't use swim. It offers you no protection and annoying to read.

There is absolutely no way the entirety of the powder you insufflate travels directly into your lungs. I guarantee it is no where near 40 mg, this would be extremely damaging. As stated above the majority of the drug is absorbed by your nasal cavity, and only a small fraction of byproduct ends up in the lungs. With that said these pills are certainly not designed for this ROA, and frequently snorting them is definitely not good for your nose, let alone your lungs. I can't give you a specific number of times as to when serious physical side effects may manifest, but if at all possible it would be preferable to stick to an alternative ROA as much as possible.

I had issues snorting Ritalin when It cleared my nostrils so much that when I would snort it, I would exhale powder..as above posters said, one nostril is always clearer than the other, snort slow and pinch so it feels like ur letting it get stuck, when in reality it's hitting your membranes

Also another good idea is a spray-bottle with saline+whatever. The best thing however is a different ROA. After that maybe extracting the substances and then putting in a sprayer. Honestly though pill binders are absolutely horrible, horrible, horrible for you. A large portion of that stuff is not water soluble and will clog up your airways for long amounts of times. I think I have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) from doing this too much honestly. And I never ever even think about doing it again.

The tonsillectomy could have a large role in the issue, as I believe they would normally catch a lot of that gunk going down.

Holy shit about the chlorine tablets! That sounds bad. Have you had noticeably worse breathing since that happened, aside from the anosmia (lack of sense of smell)? That plus the tonsillectomy could definitely cause problems. Sniffing pills is already harmful enough to a perfectly healthy person.
