Misc MAOIs are they still prescribe and which one was popular

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors have largely been replaced for a good reason - they have a high risk of adverse side-effects. Really nasty side-effects I might add.

So unless you've tried all other alternatives (SSRI's, SNRI's, Tricyclics, and Abilify) then I would not suggest it to your doctor (hell probably just think you're drug seeking). If you have tried all the above already then there is really only one MAOI that you'll be prescribed (all others are pretty much never prescribed anymore).

Selegiline is a selective MAO-B inhibitor. It's a derivative of L-Methamphetamine and is metabolized into L-meth and L-amp. Low doses of Selegiline have actually shown to be neuroprotective and increased the life-expectancy of rats. It's pretty much the only one worth trying.

I agree with swampfox. Unless you have exhausted all other options, it is not worth the risks. If you absolutely have to try one, i would say selegiline is the way to go ( it comes in a transdermal patch, too), followed by moclobemide, but you cannot get that in the US. All others would only be useful in refractory cases.

im not a drug seeking, I seek happeness, wellbehing and appreciation of life. And I dont want to be a 25k pound overweightlord because Im taking anykind of SRI drug. And acutually im a sad negative pesimist.

Actually, SSRI's and SNRI's decrease appetite. Only the antipsychotics (and all antidopaminergic/anticholinergic drugs) increase appetite. Also, any drug that will cause you to feel 'happy' instantly will be an addictive drug. MAOI's are addictive. I'm not saying that you're drug seeking - but that's exactly the kind of impression your doctor would get if you ask him to prescribe you Selegiline.

Effexor is an SNRI (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor, it also has some affinity for Dopamine as well) that has an incredibly high success rate. You should go with Effexor any day rather than Selegiline. Seriously.

MAOI's are less prone to side effects than all of the others, I have no idea where your info comes from. Or the idea that weight gain isn't a common side effect of ssris.

They were replaced for a few reasons, the biggest being the loss of patent protection. While they have fewer side effects, they do have one really bad one in that tyramine-Induced hypertension can cause a really, really bad day- or even death, but if you adhere to the dietary precautions you'll be fine. You have to be strict about it, though. It's not something that might happen, it's something that will happen if you consume tyramine rich foods.

They are probably the most effective antidepressants available. Emsam is probably the way to go for you. You really need mao-a inhibition, not just b, for antidepressant action.

That, followed by tranylcypromine and then moclobemide (is it available in the US? I've never seen anyone on it here, actually).

Don't see a problem with asking your doc for it by name, they're not controlled or drugs of abuse, so drug seekers don't go after them, though they can be euphoriants, especially high dose selegiline and tranylcypromine (this one is probably actually addictive to some extent)

Not only wikipadia say that SRI drugs cause weight gain but I also experienced it my self with Paxil and I see other people taking stuff like Celexa that are extremly fat.
