How come my psychiatrist won't prescribe me methamphetamine?

He's willing to give me high end doses of dextroamphetamine IR (instant release). I've asked him for methamphetamine multiple times and one time I think he said that it requires filing a special notice with the DEA and he wasn't comfortable with that.

Back in 2010 I got prescribed Desoxyn myself with little effort. I made a suggestion to try it since I heard good things about it. The only hoops I had to go through was finding a pharmacy that carried it, none of them did. So I had to special order it. The only thing DEA I saw was a DEA number on the bottom of my prescription, but I don't know if that number is exclusive to methamphetamine hcl. I'd think it would be for any controlled substance.

If any drug should have that issue it should be high end prescription opiates. Seeing as how they actually are a problem.

high addiction potential - Vyvanse is the new big thing because it's specifically designed to be way less euphoric if you compulsively re-dose...it sucks for the people who can control their urges. I'd compare it to young males having the priciest car insurance

because you've asked him multiple times (could be viewed as drug-seeking behavior). Asking for it by brand name would have been wiser, but far worse than just asking for Adderall.

I'd actually say its the most ironic drug out there. IME, Vyvanse was way more euphoric than Adderall ever could be, the only thing that Vyvanse did that made it worse was the crash is horrendous. I'm not the only one who had this experience either.

I was at my psychiatrit's today and I got Dexedrine for the first time in over a year. I said to him, "Right now I'm drinking a cup of coffee every morning, but coffee doesn't hit the mood receptors that amphetamines hit. So I think that ten milligrams of Desoxyn would be a cleaner version of a cup of coffee." That was my way of introducing it. He was doing something at his desk, not looking at me and then like 20 seconds later he said, "Would that be, uh, IV?" :)

Methamphetamine is very hard to get prescribed, one could only get it if they had severe ADHD, severe depression, or is obese. The fact that you've asked him multiple times to get it prescribed will not help your chances as this shows drug addict behavior. You can still get a euphoric feeling from adderall depending on your tolerance tho.

If you have a doctor that is familiar with RX common drugs like adderall, Dexedrine, etc than he will know that dexamphetamine found in adderall, Dexedrine, is 3/4 as potent as methamphetamine. When they hear methamphetamine they may get nervous , I'm sure most doctors will be more comfortable with a shrink RXing that which I'm sure they will...my shrink at first denied me more than 1 adderall a day, she finally has me on 20xr. Twice a day. IR tablets she refuses..in the beginning she denied me dexedrine has its purer form and can be abused more. She offered me it, to rid the crash from the adderall, I'm sure if I bring up desoxyn it wouldn't be a problem, after all it is RXed for ADHD also. And adderall is just as addictive.

i went to my 8th pharmacy to find Dexedrine. It's rarely stocked because it's old school and adderall and such is most commonly.

Dex (edither spansules or vyvanse) for me has worked out for me much better than Adderall. Adderall raised my bp, and gave me all kinds of nasty headaches and muscle tension.

I have been on an equivalent of 50 mg dex for a few years now with great success.

The only thing that sucks is when the pharmacy is out and I have to go a couple days without. It's hard to do anything.

im also on Adderall XR 20mg, twice a day, by a nurse practicioner at psychiatrist office. i kept complaining that Aderall XR only lasts me 4hrs if im lucky (she had me up to 30mg XR)i said my mornings start at 6am, and by 10, its wearing off right at the end of my first class, with 3 more to do, i kept telling her i was getting pissy irritable, i had the overwhelming urge to redose to focus again and mask the negative side effects. So she gave me it twice a day, i told her the IR adderall in my opinion last just as long as the XR if not longer and i feel less bad sife effects, but she is too cautious.
she knows i have drug dependency issues, methadone maintenance and on klonopin. I wanted to switch to Vyvanse but my insurance wont cover it, so she offered if i wanted, Dexedrine Spansule, i just hope she is smart enough to know that if im on 40mg adderall daily that she better match up a close equivalent dose. i told her str8 up i do my research and that aderall is a mixture of amps, the L-amp is the reason for the anxiety, nervousness, etc..then she mentioned "then ur gonna have a purer form of a single amphetamine in a capsule/tablet. but i may switch to dexedrine, only if eh agrees to put me on 15mg 2x/daily like i used to be on..well ill be happy with 15mg daily for starters, andd finally no more crashes, anxiety, piussy, cravings...then again the lifestyle of fast cash will be the bad dog talking cuz no one has heard of dexedrine, whoops..

It's the whole stigma of Methamphetamine use, it's ironic that medical practitioners will prescribe Amphetamine, Dextroamphetamine, even nasty Methylphenidate which all are much "dirtier" drugs than pharmaceutical grade Methamphetamine. It's even been shown that prescription Dexedrine can be equally to more euphoric and abuseable than prescription Meth.

It's all the stigma that Methamphetamine is a life destroying drug that rots you from the inside out (which street does), but pharmaceutical grade Meth doesn't even come close to street ice in terms of recreational use. But doctors don't know or care, they just see the stories of meth addicts going crazy and picking their flesh from their bone to even consider giving it a chance when it may very well help you more with your ADHD/ADD.

Stigmas man, they suck.
