Misc Caffeine - Is it possible to OD?

I'm an energy drink junkie - red bull, coffee, pepsi, everything. I get terrible headaches if I don't have it. Anyway, the red bull is costing me a fortune. I'm thinking of making my own energy drinks using caffeine powder. I've heard though that you can fucking die from too much caffeine powder though. What would be the manifestations of an OD? Would you just die from an instant heart attack? Could you go to the ER for it and could they do anything? Sometimes my heart races from all the caffeine and it's scary!

Just slowly cut down the habit bro that caffeine powder sounds like nothing but trouble. I used to drink a green monster energy drink every single day at the same time for at least 6 months straight. one day I just skipped it and about an hour later I was getting a terrible headache. so I just drank a half of a monster and it went away. And I did that for 2 weeks then stopped with no withdrawal. that caffeine powder sounds like it'll just raise your tolerance majorly

The better option for a discerning caffeine consumer is to get a hold of caffeine tablets. They come in 100 or 200mg doses and you usually can get around a hundred or more for less than $10 at your friendly neighbourhood drugstore.

It's easier to dose than messing around with raw caffeine powder and scales and stuff.

Caffeine OD usually manifests itself as restlessness, sweating, anxiety, excitability, stomach upset, the like. Bad shit starts happening when you take >500mg, in general.

Thanks; but what does happen if I accidentally take 1000 mg for instance? Do I just drop dead of a heart attack? Sounds like it might actually be a useful state to be in to get work done n stuff.

It's pissible to OD on anything and everything

It'd be incredibly unpleasant, panic and anxiety, heart problems, sweating, restlessness, etc

As unpleasant as caffeine withdrawal can be, it might be worth going through to lower your tolerance and cut the cost of your habit. I would recommend you then use it moderately to avoid these financial issues, although the fact that they've gotten to be a serious issue in the first place makes me wonder how much of an option that is.

Oral caffeine use is rarely fatal, because long before they consume a lethal dose people get so sick--with blurred vision, confusion, tachycardia, headaches, severe nausea, and tremors--that they think they're about to die, promptly suffer a large panic attack, and call 911. A truly dangerous overdose could include seizures, hallucinations, and/or rhamdomyolysis in addition to the previous symptoms.

Caffeine powder is easier to overdo, but if measured out properly it can certainly be used safely. For this reason, it would be advisable to determine exactly how much caffeine you consume on a typical day and measure it accordingly. Cardiac arrest can occur at extremely high doses, but you're unlikely to ever consume that amount if you approach with it with any measure of caution. The previous statement goes out the window if you have a preexisting heart condition, of course.

For someone with a low tolerance, it would probably be extremely unpleasant. However, energy drinks tend to have around 160 mg per can, so you might not feel quite as bad as I would. A heart attack is highly unlikely unless you already have other risk factors.

On the other hand, very high levels of caffeine can sometimes cause euphoria on par with other stimulants, if Erowid reports are to be believed. You're more likely to suffer the issues I mentioned above, though. And I doubt doing that regularly would be good for your heart. Or stomach. Or sleep.

I IV'd 800mgs of caffeine (four 200mg shots) when I ran out of speed once and was fine. I mean, I was sick as fuck and not feeling good but I was just fine. Apparently you can OD on caffeine according to these people, however...

Did it give you any kind of rush?

Caffeine leads to thousands of deaths a year, usually being blamed for causing ulcers and arrythmia and such. Overdose deaths are very rare, as you'd get sick and feel like you are dying way before you'd actually die (one reason caffeine is legal). I'd imagine it would be easier to OD with caffeine pills, and it would truly be a trip to hell.

caffeine...ugh...such a dirty stim. but ephedrine is much worse. can't believe some women EC stack to shed fat and get skinny.

It takes like 10000mg to die from caffiene, doses much below that are still highly uncomfortable. I never go over 600mg because it just makes me feel like shit if I do.

Got a source?

I'm sure caffeine can kill you, the poet Balzac OD'd on caffeine, and I certainly would like to cut back on how much I consume (not enough to kill me obviously) but I've never heard of it leading to thousands of deaths per year.

Without a source I'm not sure I'd believe a number that high though I guess it wouldn't shock me as thousands isn't much in compared to deaths from most drugs like alcohol, tobacco and lots of illegal drugs.

I took 1200 mg of caffeine cuz my hydroxycut sx7 has nit meg extract 100 mg lol... I took it to trip off the nut meg am I gonna die?!?

I dunno what's required for an OD, but too much caffeine is a disgusting feeling. I took a few caffeine pills once and felt nauseous, dizzy, had to sit down, just gross. And it lasted many hours.

Anyways, recommend looking at cutting back somehow. Talk to a doc or some other pro if needed.

There was a story I watched of a woman in Australia dropping from a heart attack from 3 smirnoff gaurana's. These drinks have 30mg's of caffeine in each. So 90mg's of caffeine total, 10mg more then your standard 250ml energy drink. Although the news blamed this on the combination of alcohol and caffeine which makes no sense. Some people are caffeine sensitive. Caffeine intoxication is quite scary in my experience.
