First time doing shrooms help?

So my friend and I were looking to do shrooms soon. The only problem is that I know almost nothing about them, and the only experiences he has with drugs is occasional weed smoking. I don't know the type to look for, how much to use, or anything really. I'm sorry if I seem dumb, I just want to make sure I do it right lol. I heard there are different stages or levels of a mushroom trip where you experience certain effects, but I could be wrong. If anybody could help me with this, like sort of summarize a basic guide to help, I'd appreciate it.

STOP RIGHT THERE. Check erowid, shroomery for relevant information. Read, read and read a whole lot more before picking and eating otherwise you may regret it. Good luck on the journey of learning about it though.

I hope he was just wondering what strain to try to find from his dealer and wasnt saying he was going to pick them out of the ground. Mushroom hunting is very dangerous if you dont have a strong grasp on mushroom strains.

These!! It's eventually more cost effective to grow your own. Look up 'pf tek' it'll give you a bit of a different view on things. I just started my 3rd grow 2 weeks ago

Maybe the question about mushrooms is a bit unclear, we're not here to help you get drugs. However, if you want to learn more about them you're certainly in the right place.

Please check the following links to get you on your way, I suppose Erowid is a great place to start researching

The Big & Dandy Mushroom Thread (our central thread on the topic), note that it has a 'first time mushrooms' subthread and many other associated topics.

I can recommend bookmarking www.erowid.org and our index

OP i suggest you research, research, research until you know nerd-level stuff about mushrooms. then go ahead and plan things carefully for you trip, but my suggestion is to wait until you know more.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I'm new here lol. Fortunately, I don't need help getting them, but I do need help in making sure that I take the necessary precautions before actually using them. I wasn't planning on doing them soon, in a few months actually. I want to make sure that I'm as prepared as possible. Thank you for your suggestions, I'll definitely wait to make sure I know about them first.

Aside from reading trip reports on erowid and going through the vault there's not much else you can do to prepare other than ensure you are in a good mindset and be overall content with your life.
With inexperienced trippers bad thoughts and feelings can easily seep into your trip and with no psychedelic experience it may be a little hard to handle, hell they even take the best of us by surprise.
Before my shroom trip I had read a lot on them but nothing can actually prepare you for the experience or what it will feel like.
Psychedelics are unbelievably unique and almost indescribable aside from explaining what your visuals looked like etc, but even that is a very superficial way to explain the psychedelic experience.
They have a lot of depth and character, and are beautiful substances if you treat them with respect

Be ready to question your decisions in life. Shrooms have made me question where I'm going and where I'm coming from. They can be fun, but they are learning tools much of the time. In my personal opinion it's better to dive into a 3ish gram dose, but you should test the activity of your mushies in a lower dose first to ensure you wont get sick or freak out. One gram doses in my experience can be quite short lived but more recreational. I've even fallen sleep at low doses.

I would not recommend 3 grams to a first time user.
With the best cubensis I've ever had 3.5 grams was extremely powerful and almost too much, and I'm quite the hardhead when it comes to psychedelics

Yeah the shrooms can vary, some are more potent and its hard(impossible?) to know the amount of psilocybin they contain

The safest bet is 2grams to get the more full effects of mushrooms, and if they are weak you can always take more as long as you take it during your peak

Sorry you're probably right. I just feel higher doses with shrooms to be better. Holy Toast is right though, just try a few caps, see how you feel. If you feel it was weak eat more next time.

Also, fresh versus dried can be different. In my opinion fresh are more gentle. I enjoy mixing fresh and dried, gives a wide range of effects.

Oh, and if you are normally a daily toker, I personally feel the effects can be cold and uneasy unless accompanied by weed. Some people don't enjoy pot though, so use caution.

I agree about the weed I love marijuana with psychedelics, but if I had taken a break and had a low tolerance then it could possibly make the trip very uncomfortable.

If anything I find fresh mushrooms to be more brutal, possibly because they may contain more unstable psilocin vs. more stable psilocybin especially when prepared in adicid fruit juice mixes. (The psilocybin is more stable and better suited for long-term storage in dry mushrooms, fresh mushrooms are necessarily from new batches so there is a bigger chance anyway that the psilocin has not yet degraded). However that fruit juice theory is not empirically confirmed, best bet at this point is probably to say that personal experiences can skew our opinions and if you or I think that dried or mushrooms are stronger from personal experience that is most likely because we happened to have certain strong experiences that give us that idea. But those strong experiences can just be explained by the fact that mushrooms are natural products with significantly varying potency. Even within batches.

Smoking weed during a trip may be intuitive for a regular pothead but other than that I think it is bad advice and it can be confusing to smoke anywhere before the comedown. It wouldn't be the first time cannabis would spin a shroom trip out of control, the potentiation can be insane.

Weaker doses, like with DMT, may have the need to get used to more because they aren't forcefully doing that with sheer power. But again recommending stronger doses for beginners is pretty bad advice and the rule of thumb is to always start low and work your way up. I consider 2 grams dry or 20 grams fresh Cubensis to be okay, I wouldn't take more than that.
I think that 3 or 3.5 grams (1/8 oz) of mushrooms is a notoriously strong dose to be considered normal and a much better word to attach to it would be 'full' dose. I wouldn't equate it to 100 ug of LSD which I would find doable but rather 200-250 ug or upward.
