Man slams two pints of gin, dies
THE viral drinking craze Neknominate has claimed another death after a 20-year-old rugby player reportedly guzzled two pints of gin mixed with tea bags.
Bradley Eames, from Nottingham, England, posted video of himself on Facebook. In the film Eames was heard saying, “This is how you drink", before downing the concoction, UK’s Daily Mirror reported.
He was found dead four days later.
The paper said Eames had been warned by friends about the dangers of the drinking game, which originated in Australia and has been linked to the death of four people in the last month.
However, he reportedly told friends he had to “show who is boss”.
The Neknominate craze is thought to have originated in Perth but has since gone global.
Participants challenge each other online to drink vast quantities of booze, often accompanied by physical dares. Typically they film themselves doing it.
Two die in Neknominate drinking game
Earlier this month two young men died in separate incidents in Ireland in the space of a single weekend. One of them, 19-year-old Jonny Byrne, reportedly died after jumping in the river in the middle of the night as part of a nomination.
Another man died at a hostel in London last week after reportedly drinking a cocktail of wine, whiskey, vodka and lager.
Australian authorities are concerned about the worrying trend. One video posted to YouTube shows two men clinging onto the end of a helicopter - with no safety restraints - while skolling a VB midair as it hovers over a dam.
Other concerning clips have been posted to a Facebook page dedicated to the viral trend, including a man skolling a beer before nailing his testicles to a table, then skolling another beer in the process.
The Mirror said police were unable to confirm whether Eames death was due to the drinking session.
However, his stepmother Wendy Phelps-Eames, posting a web link to a news report of another Neknominate tragedy, wrote: “You all need to stop now!!!”
