LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) – A device is making its way into schools to hide the smell and smoke of marijuana.
Students are using vapor pens, and they’re using them in classrooms. It’s becoming a problem at Lakewood High School.
“I’ve seen people in my math class and they’ll be sitting there with the teacher and they’ll be smoking it and they won’t even know,” said Jack Maestas, a student at Lakewood High.

Principal Ron Castagna has good things to say about his student body, but he’s not happy to see vapor pens in his school. Staff at Lakewood High know the gestures of vapor pen use.

“Teachers are aware of what to look for. The nervous habit of biting on your pen has a new meaning to it,” Castagna said.
Vapor pen are just like e-cigarettes. The can be purchased at grocery stores for $25.00 and up. When used for marijuana there’s no “skunk” smell, which makes it easy for students to bring them to school.

“You can use them for weed, hash oil. Pens that come with capsules with weed in them, melts the plastic and cooks the weed,” said Tim Martinez, Lakewood High campus security supervisor.

But vapor pens, marijuana, and their use have consequences.
“Would they try to mask it somehow? Yeah. A lot of kids use cologne or vaporizer pens and stuff to cover the smell on their breath,” said Jordan Williams, who was expelled for using marijuana at school.

Williams is clean now and he’s been allowed to return to school.

Vapor pens aren’t the only things students are using. CBS4 was told that students are also using inhalers and edibles to hide the signs of marijuana.

Kids have been using grass in school forever, Somebody was blazed on the first day of school at the first school ever. But this seems like another emotional "save the children" plea. I'm happy they are choosing to vape the real stuff and are not smoking the sometimes lethal synthetics. Not saying I think use by teenagers at school is a good thing but this is nothing new and it shows teens are choosing to use the least harmful drug there is in the least harmful way possible.
 
I was stoned when I walked into school almost everyday from junior year on. What the hell does it mater when I did it. I also use to take bathroom breaks and walk to to a desolate area of the school or the back area where there was a door and take a few hits. I remember my junior year the class presidene of the senior class was caught smoking in a classroom. He had to finish his senior year with my class and me and my buddy use to drive him to school everyday and we'd get ripped. The class I went in that year for 1st period was legit right in front of the main entrance to school, plus the teacher was a younger guy so he certainly knew I was baked. Man kids getting high in school, dont' see it as a problem. Better than the times I drnak in school and was wandering around hallways with my head leaning against lockers or when one of the times I tripped and thought people were on to me so I just booked it out the back door and ran home. Benzos were the best for school, with some weed of course. Made it enjoyable and the time flyed by.

being baked made calculus/algebra class drag on for fucking ever though... but yea what else is new kids getting baked before/during/after school isnt anything new.
 
I smoked weed literally everyday before school, then went home at lunch and smoked more the majority of the time. I legit did not go to school sober more than 30 times between mid-Freshman to Senior year. Never got truly caught either, I'm sure all of my teachers knew but I was rather well behaved when I was stoned so I think most of them would have rather ignored the problem than make a big deal of it.

Williams has overdosed since turning to harder drugs.While he may have just stuck to cannabis, his lack of access and thus alienation from drug users his age he sought an older crowd to purchase alcohol, the only drug he could pass a drug test while consuming...or so he thought...

I got high before going to class just twice in my life.
Once in h.s., and once in uni.
In h.s., the teacher seemed to know, and it freaked me out.
In uni, I went to a class on Indian Buddhism, and enjoyed it so much, and it seemed so profound, that I fell on the floor laughing at the amazing philosophies we were discussing. But I couldn't really remember so well later, because I was so high....
I decided that going to class high was not a good idea in general.
And after school, when teaching, I have never taught a class while high. Except for little kids's classes, where all I do is play. ;)

Used to smoke in the bathroom. Used my normal ecig in class, I'd pass it around to friends and nobody would notice. I knew ppl that would put spice in their ecig and do that but I don't fuck with synthetic noids.

I never really got high on grass before class either. Once and awhile for like the first day of classes in uni when it was basically the syllabus and the same blathery.
 
Why don't you just blaze before class what the fuck is the advantage of blazing during class.

Its funny that as soon as I saw "LAKEWOOD" I knew it was LHS.

That school has always been flooded with drug use... Hell we had our own smoker's area when I went there. The school had a piece of property that was rented from a private owner that was literally designated as a legit smoking area. I used to take cigarettes, dump out 2/3 to 3/4 of the tobacco, fill with weed and then top off with tobacco. I'd bite the filter out and then light it up when I got to the pit... As long as I was careful and didn't crush the empty filter, it looked and smelled exactly like a cigarette.

Hell the church across the street? We used to go back there and smoke... We did it so much that someone was removing seeds from their bud and one of them actually took hold and grew. We found the plant and smoked the leaves (butane torch for the win) and actually got baked as hell (probably because the poor thing had been trampled so much that it was coated in crystals).

I love how Castagna tries to act like this is a new problem. You know how many drug busts we had in the whopping 4 months I went to LHS? LMAO.
