Methadone and Antibiotics

Ive searched around and could not find a definite answer to possible interactions with this particular opioid. Some of these medications inhibit certain enzyme's from memory, or increase effects such as sedation. Although im sure opioids wouldn't be as much of a worry as alcohol for example, i just want some peace of mind. Im on a low-moderate dose of methadone and ive been prescribed Cephalexin 500mg & Metronidazole 400mg.
 
I don't know about these specifically, but a girl at a methadone clinic I once was a patient at had issues with an antibiotic she was put on because it had an interaction that basically made her methadone not last as long

That's terrifying. Im sure it won't be a problem, we'll find out anyway.
 
One of the a-biotics you're on is Keflex (cephalexin) which is used extremely commonly, so I highly doubt you'll have any issues with that. I was on clindamycin high dosage for an intense infection while on methadone and also azithromycin at one point and never had any issues.
 
Methadone is metabolised by the CYP3A4, CYP2B6 and CYP2D6, and Metronidazole is largely ( >50% ) metabolised in the liver (but could not find by which enzymes), so I would conclude that there's a very high chance that adverse reaction will occur if both are taken at the same time.

Thanks for the replies, im probably going to start tomorrow after the main effects wear off.
