Hello BL,

I would like to tell you about an experience that I had in the summer of 2011 after taking 3.5 grams of mushrooms and smoking a good amount of cannabis. I am wondering if anyone might have any thoughts on this experience and if my questions parallel your own in some way.
I am 39 and have experience with mushrooms, LSD, MDMA, 2C-B, DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, salvia, mescaline, ketamine, and cannabis dating back to 1991. I have had many strange, magnificent, terrifying and beautiful experiences but I have one particular experience that I would very much like to receive feedback on.

The sun was up and I was baseline having taken the shrooms at around midnight, standing outside my house in Santa Fe (New Mexico) smoking a cigarette. I was looking north-west toward Los Alamos, toward the Jemez mountains I think. I looked up and saw a small gray-silver craft hovering above the foothills that were probably 200 yds away from me. The craft was perhaps the most ridiculous looking thing that I had ever seen. It was if it were being dangled by a string, something from and Ed Wood movie. It was wobbly and kooky looking. I wanted to laugh but i was stunned and sort of immobile for a second. I shifted my gaze to refocus and regain my perspective and the craft appeared at whatever point in the sky that my eyes stopped at. It seemed like I was directing the position of the craft on the horizon with my gaze. It was impossibly fast and seemed to know, almost before I did, where I was going to look. The craft anticipated the shift of my my eyes and seemed a part of me.

I remember getting the distinct feeling that this was real, even more real than real and that I was somehow projecting this object from inside myself. It was an actual moment of the uncanny the Freudian Das Unheimliche. I thought of Jungian and Lacanian ideas about fugitive psychic energy escaping and manifesting itself in plain reality. I thought of the McKenna’s and their experiment at La Chorrera. I became paranoid and fear stricken that I had really lost it, that I had finally blown something loose. I ran over to some trees and hid my view from the craft. I waited for a second or two and then looked at the sky and there it was. We played peek-a-boo for several minutes as I would hide behind a tree and look up at the sky and it would, again, reappear. The craft seemed playful, benevolent and kind of bored but I really got paranoid as I felt that I could not get away from its all-seeing eye. I ran indoors into my bedroom and hid in my bed until I calmed down. I went back outside maybe 15 minutes later to see if it was still there and it was gone.

I couldn’t help being struck by how ridiculous the craft appeared, it really was kooky in a 1950’s Sci-fi double-feature kind of way. I felt a cruel irony of “here is your alien contact but it’s too absurd to talk about, not glamorous, sleek, cool or futuristic in any sense of the word so forget about people being interested in the story“. I don’t, of course, know if it was projected from my consciousness or not but the fact that it kept following, even anticipating my gaze left me thinking that it was attached to or a part of me. All of this was just so weird that it somehow made up for the banality of it all. I did feel attacked, kind of, as if it were able to gain control at any minute.

I am aware of the research of Terence Mckenna, Rick Strassman, John Lilly…etc. ..and I had been convinced that contact of this sort occurred in hyperspace and not with silver ships and little green men. So it left me with some questions, as mushrooms are known to get all Halloween-y but this was pretty different. If you have any thoughts or similar experiences I would love to hear about it. Can we project these things, do they happen in the here and now or hyperspace?

Thank you and be well.

Haha dude I have no idea... how sober were you? How often did you or do you trip?

I've seen a wormhole open up in the sky once during an LSD + MDMA trip, that's about the closest I can relate other than numerous entity contacts on tryptamines.

" I shifted my gaze to refocus and regain my perspective and the craft appeared at whatever point in the sky that my eyes stopped at. It seemed like I was directing the position of the craft on the horizon with my gaze."

This sounds to me, that this could be related to your eyes.
I sometimes have, well certainly not "similar" experiences, but at leas artefacts in my optical field that are introduced by my physical eye.
Combination with a psychedelic, as in your situation, might add up to something.
If you really believe for a moment, that something like you describe is happending - this is an extreme set.
And set and setting are THE factors that shape psychedelic experiences.

The government tests out new weather ballons all the time. Some of them do resemble UFOs. No doubt what u saw was real and tripping just made it look even more absurd. I think the reason people notice these unidentified flying objects (no aliens in there most likely) more often while tripping because your preception is highly enhanced and looking at the night sky is hypontizing, one of my favorite things to look at. I love looking stars n making my own constellations. Really beautiful. Also expemental jets are quite a common site where I live.

Sounds like a legit UFO experience to me, the disks do kind of wobble when they're hovering and they can see you and do know what you're thinking. Plus you're in New Mexico haha... I'm not going to delve too deep into this subject though.

This, floaters in your eyes follow your gaze exactly like that, but on psychedelics they may appear to look like a craft.

ive seen two ufo's very very clearly a few years back was doing a lot of mdma at the time but hadn't for a few days when i saw this i know i dnt dream it and it was not drug induced the real

Fully fledged long time UFO enthusiast here.

OP - yeah that sounds like floaters made more interesting by a brain that was either full of chemical or just fucking with you that day.

I believe they are a thing, but they are not from space. Personally I'd bet my left nut that 99.99999% are military craft or more recently drones being tested.
IMO the drone theory explains why they'd need to go into urban enviroments and occasionally follow people.

This book on the subject had a massive impact on me

I also vote for eye floaters, they move in the same way you described. Something slightly on topic, I have this like 3 second clip of an extremely vivid and futuristic UFO burned into my brain and I don't know whether it was from a lucid dream or it really happened. It was flying above the house I was living in at the time, it was likely just a dream but it makes me wonder to this day.

My childhood was rife with experiences like this through Missouri, Oklahoma, and the Texas Hill Country.

Have had entity contacts, but no UFOs yet. Watched a thunderstorm on psilocybin once, though, and saw apparitions of ancient gods doing battle in the sky, though, as what seemed to be a projection my mind was making with the dark, night sky (5 grams of shrooms, caffeine, nicotine, and a large amount of capsicin).

Thank you for your great comments!

I was not experiencing any effects from the mushrooms at this time and I hadn't been tripping much in the days or weeks proceeding. But as ComfortablyNumb95 indicates, I may have not been as finished as I thought I was!

This is one of the more interesting components of the story. But, as most of you say, It's more likely that I was still tripping or that the mushrooms just had me tuned-in to it or something. This idea of the floaters is really excellent, I hadn't thought of that and you are right the behavior of the craft was just like a floater. I do believe that I saw this craft though; it was real to me and not a hallucination. Since I began experimentation with these substances in 91, I have always felt that an increase in synchronicity, coincidences, De-ja-vu and the uncanny almost always follow a trip. I have never experienced such a direct intrusion or crumbling of reality while baseline though. From other experiences with triptamines, I am confident that mushrooms can put one into contact with alien intelligence and I have experienced this purely in hyperspace (through the mind) and through lived, felt experience with the phenomenal world(s) but this was always while under the effects of the mushroom, DMT or what have you.

I'm sure that most of you are familiar with The McKenna’s work on mushrooms and UFO's and Rick Strassman's work at UNM in the 90's with DMT. No matter what you believe, all you have to do is try these substances with the correct set & setting and you will receive the evidence needed to understand how such theories of entity contact can hold-up so strongly. Without getting too deep into a McKenna-style rap about how mushrooms came from outer space and contain alien intelligence and how they are responsible for the evolution of language and consciousness among the mammals that ate them, I wonder if taking consistent, low-doses of mushrooms (so that one could function normally) could put one into permanent contact with alien entities, tune-oneself-in or make one open to the communication. That’s what they did at La Chorrera but with constant, huge doses (I think that’s pretty much all they had to eat-a steady diet of mushrooms rich in triptamine...for weeks). I don’t think it turned out to good for Dennis so I am thinking about this low-does idea. Do any of you know of any writers who explicitly explore the link between triptamines (specifically mushrooms and DMT) and UFO's or direct entity contact, besides the McKenna’s and Strassman?

Again, thank you ALL for your feedback and sharing your own experiences, it is very valuable to me and I appreciate it!

psychedelics do crazy shit. and i cant say if UFOs or aliens or any of that is really there or not, but the phenomenon of people experiencing it is very real. psychedelics seem to be like a magnet for weird shit to happen anyways man.
