Gibberings CLVI: Back to the Future

Unlucky Kenny,at least u got the cash back for another day.
I've never tried Opium, is it as nice as heroin if u have tried heroin that is?

Aye I understand all that, but what I'm getting at is there are only 24 hours in a day and we can't post simultaneously on Facebook and Bluelight*. I can't anyway. So before Facebook came along there were more hours in the day available for posting on Bluelight. Also it takes effort to get the most out of any of these things, it took me months of lurking before I started posting on Bluelight, and then there is time taken getting to know people properly and understanding the rules. I am sure a similar investment of time is required to get the most out of Facebook. If I had discovered Facebook first, which I'm sure is the general case for "young people", and gone to the effort of integrating myself into a "community" there, then I would be loathe to start looking for some alternative that would require a similar level of effort. And the opposite is true, I am loathe to put the time required into Facebook, because I have already done it here :)

Yes there is an ebb and flow too, I don't argue with that. But I think it's a simple matter of fact that given people have limited time and energy, then most of those people who are putting it into Facebook are not going to put it into BL. I'm sure there are exceptions and some people can manage several online communities at once, but I'm sure I'm not alone in not wanting to "spread myself thinly".

*I get that you can indeed have a discussion taking place in facebook and be involved in it, and also have a simultaneous discussion taking place in BL, but while you are posting on your facebook discussion you are not posting on your BL discussion, and vice versa, unless you have two heads and four arms, which I don't think you do :D

Of course you can. By using alt n tab on PC/laptop n having two windows open. With phone by using the Facebook app n the Internet broswer for Bluelight.

To be honest I do not understand why you are debating this? You can't really compare Facebook with Bluelight - it's like comparing chalk with cheese. BL is a drugs forums whereas Facebook is a social networking site. Facebook isn't moderated where BL is. I'm sorry but to me I don't understand what we are arguing here? People don't stop coming here because they're found Facebook - they stop because things change n it really os coincidental.

Besides, as another member states it would be difficult for some people try to have a period of abstinants from drinking/using n so they may use Facebook because it's less temptation. Surely in that respect Facebook is a good thing? Xxxx

Evey, I know how to use a computer :) I know I can alt-tab, I'm not saying it's impossible to have discussions on both facebook and bluelight and switch between them. I am saying that if you have three hours to spend and you divide it between two internet discussion sites, then that will work out as less than three hours per site. Maybe you spend 10 seconds on BL then you spend 10 seconds on FB and then back for 10 seconds on BL, it doesn't really matter how quickly you switch between them, if you spend equal time on them both then you will only spend 1.5 hours on each :)

We were discussing how people's use of FB has made BL a quieter place, and people were saying that you can do both, and I am pointing out that if you divide your time between two things then the time spent per thing will be a fraction of the total time. This seems to me like a scientific fact.

Also, I'm in a bad mood, and I get pedantic when I'm in a bad mood ;)

Yer 'avin a larf, surely. Facebook is heavily moderated by lots of rules and regulations and report functions. TONS of em. It's VERY heavily moderated, just not with forum style moderators obviously, because it's a totally different platform.

I get what you're saying in some respects it is. But you don't get banned as easily you can talk about things with being told to stfu or you'll be banned, that sort thing (not critising BL over just saying that it •may" be a reason why a person would choose Facebook over a moderated forum (any forum not just Bluelight).

I don't think FB per se is what's drying up the forum, the dynamics are just different, for instance I check EADD daily but alot of times nothing has really progressed from the day before, I look at who's the last poster in a thread and often no one has addes anything in the past 24 hours. So in a way it's vicious cycle, not much traffic, which in turn drives people elsewhere.

Unless I see the Gibberings has gained a lot of pages I don't even click on it.

Facebook is constanly updated with new content, that's what makes it "moreish", where you find yourself opening, checking things, closing the tab, then opening again ten minutes later...for the whole day. Because everytime you check it, you'll have tons of new things, also if you like the right pages(like Bum of the Day) you get tons of worthy content.

Good point :)
Sorry to Hear you're in a bad mood. I hate bad moods. I tend to go to Facebook n let rip when I'm in one. How I have friends on there I don't know.
I'm always here in PM if you need anyone to talk to :)

Thanks :) Don't worry though my bad mood will soon be banished. Dr Knock's Poppy Pod Panacea is in the pipeline.
