Alternatives to ambien?

Withdrawal help?

Ways to boost ambien so I don't have to take so much?

Thanks

I would stay away from ambien IMO, I would just go for some OTC sleep aids or smoke bud if you can. Smoking helps me get to sleep waaayy faster than ambien. I've also heard that ambien causes short term memory loss, I guess smoking would too but not as bad. Some times when I'm drivin down the road, i forget what I just passed, like the scenery and stuff. I'll be like "damn I don't even remember going through there" haha. I used to abuse ambien, don't ask why. It was at the beginning of my drug use and I knew it could fuck you up(as in make you "high") so I used to snort it. Never again though, drips are the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted.

Sorry can't help with withdrawals because I've never experienced them but I'm sure someone will come along shortly with more help

^I think he meant the OP.

As long as you haven't been taking it long-term and abusing it there shouldn't be too much w/d, especially if you switch to another sleep aid. There are the other Z-drugs (Lunesta, Sonata, and I think 1 or 2 others). Benzos are also an option but probably not a good one as they're even more addictive than the Zs.

Have you tried something natural like melatonin?

Do you have good sleep hygiene?

If you stop abruptly after taking it for a while there'll probably be some rebound insomnia but personally I find cannabis more helpful than most sleep aids anyway.

Get super good Kava extracts/tinctures, kratom extracts and tinctures, and maybe get several benzos to help taper the first 5-7 days.... I've yet to meet someone addicted to ambien except maybe in the way they have hard time sleeping without it. I hope you haven't got to a point where you are taking Ambien in the day time and while doing day-to-day things instead of just at night... Ambien is the most crazy drug ever, like total mind eraser and making oneself do such random things its defies explanation! haha :D

I literally trip if I abuse it lol. One time I was sitting on my porch and there is a flower pot on the hand rail and it started moving around on me haha but I've always been able to remember what happened the next day. Only benzo's make me forget what happened the night before and they just make me pass out. I hate benzo's.

But OP, if you can smoke bud than definitely try it. It'll help you go to sleep and you get to catch a nice little buzz. It's a win - win situation :)

I am abusing by taking 30-40mg daily. That is considered abuse. I use to only have to take it at night but now it is during the day and increasing. The withdrawals are mainly psychological and I am losing my mind. Panic attacks. Sweats. Shaking. How can I stop this? I am at my wits end.

OP, I suggest you taper down. Are you prescribed by a doctor or are you getting this off somebody?

I think I am kinda doing that. I only started a day ago. I am still having horrible withdrawals. I know not many people know
it is addictive. It has a bad hold on me. Maybe not everyone's body reacts as bad.

I hate the term abuse because I take them to sleep and I go to sleep. I didn't/don't use for entertainment. I never took
any during the day until today to hold back withdrawals.

Thank you.

People grow tolerant to ambien very quickly. It is supposed to be used for short term to reset sleep pattern. Everything about it is similar to benzos. You should seriously go to vitamin shoppe and pick up some natural but effective supplements and herbs.

l-theanine(get the suntheanine, look on ingredient profle list)
St johns wort
valerian root

These have a relaxing and almost sedating effect at higher doses. It will help you to a certain extent and allow you too taper off the ambien. Especially allowing you too fight off the withdrawals during the day. If you don't take care of this now it will only get worse.

I suggest you stay off the stuff once you are able to stop. I don't even want to tell you to ask the doctor for another type of benzo either. But if you want to risk it and try again, ask for temazepam.

Thank you for your reply and advice. I have a lot of fear and panic. First thing when I got up I went to a friend for some spiritual care. Then I went
to an NA meeting. My head won't shut up. I cannot control the thoughts and feelings, fears.

For me personally, you want to be very careful withdrawing from any sedative. Ambien has a very short half life. I am not sure what protocol dictates, however, when one withdraws from a short acting GABA agonist they are typically switched to a cross tolerant longer acting GABA agonist. Most common are diazepam and phenobarbital.
You had stated that you don't like benzos, so a switch to diazepam may not be good for you.
The other option is to slowly taper your ambien to a safe jumping off point. All of this should be under the supervision of a doctor.
Psychedelic pointed to the useful herbs and supplements. Stay away from booze.

I don't drink so that is not a problem. This fear is what is the worst. It is a general fear, not a fear of someone, just general fear. Maybe not feeling safe? I don't know.

Hang in there, I feel you on the fear. I never kicked ambien, but I've kicked Xanax and kpin a few times. I know it can be quite terrifying. Although the fear you feel is real and valid, it is most likely due to the withdrawal. Stay strong and you will come out the other end feeling so much better. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for your post. I am still in fear from the moment I wake up each day. I know physical withdrawals are horrible, this psychological I find very disturbing.
