How drug addiction in Punjab is lowering sex drives and pushing up the divorce rate

Pubjab's drug-addict youngsters just can't get no satisfaction. Areas of the state particularly notorious for drug consumption have been witnessing a mercurial rise in the number of divorces, and experts put this trend down to rampant abuse of methamphetamines and hallucinogens, among other drugs. Chandigarh-based sexologist Dr Ambrish Singal confirms as much. "Dependence on drugs is lowering the sex drive of Punjab's youths. The condition is no different in neighbouring Haryana and Chandigarh," he explains before adding on an ominous note: "The menace of drug addiction is eating up the youth."

He explains that drugs bring about a drop in testosterone and estrogen - the hormones essential to a healthy sex drive. In a report released in 2010-11, the Punjab government cited a study conducted by Amritsar's Guru Nanak Dev University to conclude that at least 73.5 per cent of the state's youths aged between 16 and 35 years were confirmed drug addicts.

On a serious note doesn't meth boost sex drive?

That does seem like a pretty large chunk of the community to be addicted. The article goes on to say how this area is a large drug hub.

Unfortunate to hear its tearing apart families. I think that this generation isnt really about getting married any more tho atleast in the us. Thats jusy my opion.

3rd world pseudo-science. As if they need more people to reproduce in India. "All sex hormones are reduced by all drugs" bullshit Professor Ignorant Retard, show me some evidence.

Good, there's too much people in the world already. We don't need more mouths we can not feed. Somebody has to say it.

im no scientist but in all of my experience, pretty much all drugs lessen sex drive, desire in the long run..many drugs like opiates and benzos just crush my sex drive..meth may increase sex drive initially but im sure the other problems it creates might have a negative effect on marriage or a relationship :)

It stops reproduction, then its a good thing. My grandparents are indian, I have been. The last thing india needs is more people.

I've found that heroin kills the sexual frequency of a relationship. (And methadone is worse. Methadone is such a terrible drug)

Alcohol is pretty great in this sense. Not too much, but like a couple of 40s of OE are very romantic.

He mentioned hormones like there had been studies done to prove this. He was just talking out his ass and abusing his position for the credibility. Weed, GHB, and virtually all stimulants increase sex drive. You have to have a long term addiction (months/years) to stimulants for this effect to go away. It is akin to heroin users injecting just to get normal again, unable to ever feel high anymore. Your stereotyped speculation about meth's effects on relationships is irrelevant. I don't see why you felt the need to offer apologetics for this quack. Most drugs have a positive effect on sex drive unless you abuse the fuck out of them.

Consider his claim that 70+% of the population are addicts, he must have a very low threshold for this (i.e. If they have ever used a drug other than alcohol/tobacco = addict).

73.5% are drug addicts? What hogshit. There's a picture accompanying the article of a bloke having a chillum. That's because cannabis is the main drug - by miles - in the Punjab. I could believe 73.5% saying they've toked cannabis. That doesn't make them drug addicts. Except in the crappy Daily Mail.

Avoid this 'newspaper'.
