Toronto mayor endorses pot decriminalization

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is challenging Canada's federal government to decriminalize marijuana.

The mayor was asked about the issue Thursday on the Washington, D.C.-based radio show "The Sports Junkies" before making football predictions.

Ford, who previously has said he has smoked "a lot" of marijuana, says decriminalization likely won't happen in Canada as long as the Conservatives are in power.

He questions that policy, saying, "Why wouldn't they at least decriminalize it and try to get revenue from it?"

Ford was arrested in Florida in 1999 for driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana possession. He pleaded no contest to the DUI charge, and the marijuana charge was dropped.

Ford has rebuffed intense pressure to resign over his admitted crack use and revelations of other erratic behavior.

Shouldn't that be 'legalize'? it to get revenue from it?

and apparently the cops have evidence that he also used heroin last year.

Some one video tape that shit too. Haha

You'd think he'd be smart enough to not use around just anyone if he's a mayor but then again we all know he's not.

Vancouver had a safe injection site for a decade, Montreal opening one soon. Toronto is bigger than both cities combined yet no injection rooms. The only reason for this is it is a political loser there. No neighbourhood in Toronto will ever accept a safe injection site in their backyard. Ford is a populist and pot is popular. Injection rooms are decidedly unpopular in Toronto. I hate Rob Ford. Glad I don't live in Toronto anymore

i used to think Toronto was cool but mayor lardass made me seriously reconsider. theres nothing redeeming about him or the small minded suv-driving NIMBY people he represents

This guy is wild. I've never been to Toronto and I know that. I assume Toronto natives are saying 'of course you would want that...' and giving him a glare.
