Cocaine cargo sent to German supermarket 'by mistake'

Police in Berlin have found 140kg (309lb) of cocaine hidden in banana boxes which were sent to a supermarket in an apparent mistake by traffickers.

Cocaine valued at 6m euros (£5m; $8.2m) was found in fruit sent to five branches of Aldi-Nord in and around the German capital, police said.

The drugs are believed to have arrived by sea in Hamburg from Colombia, from where they were shipped by lorry.

Smugglers probably made a "logistical error", a police spokesman said.

It was Berlin's biggest cocaine haul in years, Olaf Schremm added.

Workers at five branches of Aldi in Berlin and one in Brandenburg uncovered the drugs while unpacking the boxes, the German news magazine Spiegel reports.

Aldi declined to comment, citing the continuing investigation.

Four years ago, workers at Spanish branches of another German budget supermarket chain, Lidl, found nearly 80kg of cocaine hidden in boxes of bananas imported from Ecuador.

Police said Lidl had had nothing to do with the smuggling operation and thanked the chain for its help in finding the drug, The Guardian newspaper reports.

Double posted again, so I'm editing again. I guess its a big risk but I wonder how often this happens and the unsuspecting receiver keeps the shit. I know I would have left those bananas aside and would have played dumb if the cops showed up. Maybe picked up a matching amount of bananas and switched them some night. Then retired from the marketing business. Although marketing my new bananas would be dangerous with LE in general and whoever was waiting on them trying to find them.

I am just worried about those bananas.
What if people got hold of them, and ate them, and felt GOOD!?
What if they got high on the fructose?
What if someone tripped on a peel and died?
We can't trust people with those things.
Thank God the police are doing such a great job, and using pure luck, managed to get them before they hit the market!!!
 
Its also good they lay out three bananas at the front of the picture in case we are unsure exactly what the 'popular yellow fruit' looks like.

I am worried if those "feel-good" bananas got wasted 8(

On second thoughts, that agent is looking at the banana in the photo, he probably pocketed them for a healthy "boost".
 
I wonder how green those bananas were before they left Colombia?, "arrived by sea". The logistics of keeping a fresh banana needs to be known, because that journey is not a speedy one.

There biggest cocaine haul in years though due to a logistical fuck up by the smugglers says it all.

Easy. Pick 'em green, ship refrigerated cold storage, blast with ethylene to ripen them when they get to the destination country
 
Such a blight on the world US corporations, and the elite involved with there coruption. It makes me sick to read these historical events leading to crimes against the people of other nations and the death that ensues. I wish there was a hell for these monsters that rule and those that ruled in the past. So called christians, many of them but in truth no better than wild beasts of prey.

Which is a shame because if you take out the illuminati crap (and several other layers of conspiracy crap - such as "the Red Cross Ambulance Service, an intelligence arm of the British monarchy." 8o :sus:) there is some stuff there about UB/Chiquita and the top of the American hierarchy which is no doubt based in some truth.
