I was prescribed Ritalin (the no-name brand, quick release) in November to add to what I already take, Wellbutrin. My doctor felt it would support the other, aiding in the relief of my depression, as well as helping me with my studies. They've been great together, except for that my heart rate has been around 90 bpm.

My roommate does coke all the time, I've never tried it, but she recently suggested that we try snorting my Ritalin, so I went along with it (I did want to try it) and I felt almost the same as when I take it orally, maybe just a little enhanced. We only did 10mg each over a half hour. Anyway, it made the area around my tear ducts go a very dark purple, just a hint and in a very small area. Not enough for someone else to notice and it was gone the next day. But I was wondering if that means that maybe it isn't safe for me to snort it again. Because I probably would.

Well, pills are not meant to go up your nose but to be swallowed. Long term snorting of anything is going to definitely cause damage to the sinuses (which can lead to a lot of medical and health issues for you) and to the very delicate nasal passages along with the rest of your respiratory system including your lungs. Some of this damage can and will (with continued use) become long term and/or permanent. The only advantage to snorting your pill is going to be a slightly faster onset of the drug over swallowing it. When you weigh this with all of the disadvantages of it, why not just swallow it? It would seems silly to do otherwise.

Not only faster onset but perhaps a higher concentration in blood as well. Oral administration often leads to significant metabolism by the liver prior to the drug reaching the systemic circulation. Nasal administration in theory avoids this.

Snorting a pill almost always decreases the bioavailability of the drug inside it, the fillers and binders clog up the nose and prevent alot of the drug from being absorbed, much more so than the processes of taking a pill orally. So maybeeee if you're lucky you'll get higher levels of the drug but for an extremely short period of time compared to oral administration.

Perhaps. Generic methylphenidate IR is quite a small tablet with a relatively small amount of excipients however. I am not so sure they would clog up the nose from a single 10mg tablet over 30 mins as the original poster states.

People always say snorting Ritalin is the best way to get euphoria, but snorting pills (and all their fillers and binders) doesn't sound too bright to me. Some pills contain talc, which can cause lung cancer if inhaled in large amounts. Not sure whether that applies to Ritalin or not.
