So my buddy had his monthly check up today. He was taking 4 30 mg oxycodone a day last month he was switched to 2 oxycodone 30 mgs for break through pain and 2 30mg morphine er. He found hes pain lever really increased and he likes the buzz he gets from the oxy. Not only did the morphine do nothing for his pain or buzz it made him itch all over and made him constipated severly. So today the doctor switched his morphine to 30 oxycontin and his oxycodone for breakthrough from 30 mgs twice a day to 1 5mg every 4-6 hours or 4 a day.
Why would he cut his break through med from 2 30mgs a day to 4 5s which is a third as much. Is the oxycontin the much stronger. Also hes wondering since he likes the buzz whats the best way to take the oxycontin. He was told he cant crush them to snort so hes thinking break the oxycontin into a few small peices and swallow if he has to

They realize your buddy (you) loves the buzz. You are being tapered to nothing and getting screwed. What is it prescribed for anyway?

yeah you don't get pain killers for a buzz they are prescribed for pain relief only so if it's not helping you pain say so but if you're just looking for a buzz don't even bother

Severe knee and hip damage. Sever osteoarthritis in knee

the best way to take oxycodone is to eat them. if they're IR oxycodone's then there's really not much you have to do to prepare them. if they're oxycontin's then the tamper-resistant mechanism will really hinder the "buzz".

oral morphine is pretty much garbage. so it's good that you got switched back to oxycodone's. i do however get the distinct feeling your doctor's preparing to give you the boot. it may not be the case, sometimes doctors have erratic and inexplicable behaviors. just be honest and serious with him without being submissive eg. "doc, i was wondering why you cut my oxycodone dose down, i was comfortable taking two tablets daily for breakthrough pain". if not, ask for your medical history and politely tell him you'll be finding a new doctor.

I was worried ur right but dont think so. I orgianally saw a diff doctor at this offer. My first appt he said i needed off em and next time we would discuss cutting down. My second appt i walked in the gave me a diff doctor. At first i was pissed i dont like seeing who ever. At my old doctors office i saw my doctor just him. If i needed a quick appt due to ssy the flu i could see a diff doctor but all my check up and pain meds had to go through him.

The new doctor is more open to it. He said i dont want you on it but i think you have a reason and he said yes ur addictied but because you have to be by now you dont seem to abuse them. He feels when i can get off them because im pain free i should but said im willing to keep giving them as long as your willing to fo what you need to

Yes at one time i had a hell a problem i had a bmw pull infront me when i was going 55 mph. I smashed my face off the windshield busting it ate the steering wheel trashed my knee and had knee surgery i ended up with a 70mg vic and 180 mg a day habit all prescribed. Got off the stuff and didnt take crap for six months. In april 2013 riding with a buddy a truck hit us going 60 on my side smashing my arm and head through the passdnger window knocking me out smashing my chest and hip with the door. It took five fireman the jaws of life and 30 minutes to cut me out. Dislocating my hip. The emts heard it pop back while removing me. For the last 8 months iv had pain to the point i cry 75% of the time i walk up stairs or say cook a big meal. Iv had to quit scuba diving and hunting. At my appt the doctor said surgery was all put my only option.

I think hes just concerned im taking so much its gonna kill me one day. I dont take more then im tokd to just might take it a diff way every so often. Hes repeatedly said u could stop breathing in ur sleep from it. I think if he thought it was im just a junky hed done cut me off

When i told him the morphine was no help making me itch like crazy he quickly opted fir the oxycotin and marked in my chart allergy to morphine.

Iv looked into other doctors and am prepared to switch if need be

When i looked at the bottle of 5mg oxycodone it says 1-2 every 6 hours so im ok with that. 2 is 8 a day so 4 mg spread out and i had been spliting the 30s in half taking 4 times for break through instead of twice. So not to much diff.
Honestly ya i miss 180 30mg of oxycodone a month and 180 10 mg norcos a month i was on this summer but i think its alot saver and better for me now
