Hi all, just over a week ago I underwent surgery and was on a lot of morphine for about 3 days, followed by some oxycodone... On the first night of being on morphine I vomited and that was the only time I did. Would I have a moderate tolerance to opiates by now? I'm just wondering because I'm planning on taking around 30mg of oxycodone (5mg pills) tonight, but I'm not sure if should expect any nausea or vomiting, which isn't what I want having broken ribs.

no you do not have anywhere near a moderate tolerance yet.
okay, so a strong dosage for someone with no tolerance would be 10 -30mg of Oxy?

If you're not sure of your tolerance, then you need to dose very low at first and work your way up.
Start at 5-10mg's, wait 30-40 minutes, and take more if needed. Do not just take the full 30mg's if you have any doubt at all you wont be able to handle it.

Opiates can be unbelievably unpleasant the first time or two cause people tend to always over do it. I would even say wait and hour or two before you try and redose, and even then, only redose a little bit.
I've taken a 15mg dose twice now and felt great both times! Also... my mother gave me some of her Oxycodone that she never used however it has an expiry of Oct 2013. I popped 15mg of these today and didn't seem get any pain relief from it, is it possible that it is less potent because of the expiry date? I have searched the internet but haven't been offered any straight answers.

That's interesting, considering I didn't seem to feel any effect. Well, after waiting a few hours I just took a 20mg dose of the old stuff, I'm hoping you're right!

If you're not feeling it as strongly, it is because of your tolerance, not the pills loosing their potency.
Yeah, but I was under the impression that it takes longer than a week of usage to build any kind of tolerance... wrong?

Depends on the person. Even one day of heavy usage based on whatever your tolerance is at the time, is enough to cause you to not feel the same dose as much the next day.
