Oof. Nobody's ever matched Sutcliffe for sheer sartorial perversity.

Serial killer haute couture :)

Apparantly when the copper told him to undress and said "What on earth are those"? Pete replied "Er...legwarmers".

He'll take the easy way out id of thought. Sooner rather than later, I know he pleaded guilty but from the reports he was shaken by the judge excepting his plea and giving a date for sentencing which suggests that he realises the gravity of what hes done and in for. I dont think hes prepared to serve the time at all. The likes of our most sinister killers/rapists seem to take it on the chin, even raise a smile when they're handed down 3 life sentences.

Good ol' Pete and his v-necks. It's those details that chill you to the bone.

He really set the standard for creepiness, didn't he?

And the desperate insistence that there was nothing "sexual" about the crimes - God told him to do it - so the wife wouldn't think he was that bad.

He once got the head of the hammer caught in someones skull and was trying to work it out for 5 minutes.

Typical police tho - after being told for 4 years that he was raping kids they finally went to his house after a "drug tip-off".

Reminded me of the old coffee mornings with Jimmy Saville.

Any idea as to how he got caught?

Planning to rape a baby doesn't sound like something you'd share with a lot of people, so I'm assuming it was somebody close to him that finally saw it had gone just a bit too far..

Any idea as to how he got caught?

A drugs tip-off, I've heard. Yeah, it took drugs to spur the cops into action. I'll try and find a source.

Meanwhile, the tabloids are having a field day publishing pictures of him doing charity work:

Here we go.

Watkins was only stopped late last year after South Wales Police raided his home on a drugs tip and stumbled upon his hard drives containing images, videos and conversations about him attacking children.

Assuming this is true, they were probably only fulfilling quotas and knew Watkins would be an easy bust. If it weren't for Silk Road, they may not even have seized his computer.

Seemingly so. I don't expect they have to meet any quarterly nonce arrest targets.

Looks like a few police heads will roll as a result of the various failures to act upon previous tip-offs. Whether that will change anything is anybody's guess.

Had this been your stereotypical loner in a grubby trenchcoat then it may have been a different story. When will people wake up to the fact that most child abuse is committed by 'everyday' folk, and it that it very often involves close family members? I've lost count of the number of 'how could a mother allow this to happen?' comments I've encountered.

The fact is that parental involvement in child abuse is far more common than many people would like to acknowledge. I wouldn't be surprised if at least one more mother is waiting anxiously for a knock at the door just now.

He's most definitely sinister, shaking and getting upset isnt what you expect from someone that deranged was my point.

ah i understand what you mean now, was being a bit thick last night. If hed been a complete psycopath he wouldnt have felt anything (sane) possibly. Hes being given antipsychotics, so if he's psychotic then that'll affect his sentencing/treatment. He must allways have had a bit of a screw loose, but with all this coming out now, it'd be enough to tip him over the edge, if he wasnt allready.

Reading it back it wasnt that clear what my point was.

Its very complex really, is he a psycopath in the sense that he has no concious, no feeling? Id say yes due to what he was prepared to do to children however a doctor may argue he isnt, from what little I/we know about him he doesnt seem to fit the bill..

Regardless he is a waste and I hope he doesnt get the tools to off himself and he lives a long and miserable life.

Rehabilitation is only applicable to certain types, the worst of the worst cant change imo, Ians up there with them..

I think it's pointless for any of us to speculate on Watkins' mental health or his capacity for empathy and remorse, especially given that we only have newspaper reports to go off.

It's more or less a given that he is a highly disturbed individual. I really don't think you can glean anything of real substance from accounts of his reaction to the court verdict. Plenty of the most callous criminals have shown similar reactions. It means very little.

Let's leave it to the professionals, eh?

Detectives investigating reports that Peaches Geldof named the two mothers whose babies were involved in abuse by disgraced rock star Ian Watkins have confirmed they are in talks with prosecutors.

The daughter of Boomtown Rats star Bob Geldof posted the names of the two women on Twitter after reportedly reading them on a US-based website - but has since removed them.

Lostprophets singer Ian was branded a ''determined and committed paedophile'' after he pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a string of sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.

The 36-year-old, from Pontypridd, South Wales, plotted the abuse with the two mothers in a series of text and internet messages.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Peter Doyle, of South Wales Police, said: " We are aware that the names of Ian Watkins' co- defendants have been published on social media channels.

"Clearly, there is strong public feeling about this case and many people are using social media forums to talk about the issues involved.

"We are currently in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service regarding the matter and will take action if appropriate.

"Our primary objective as an organisation remains the safeguarding of vulnerable people and children.

"Victims of sexual abuse have a right to anonymity in order to protect their future welfare and we urge those discussing the issues raised online to be careful about using information that identifies victims in cases like this."
