Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

I'm finding this extremely stressful. I have been on DLA since a child (obviously my parents had it for me. But was told that it was 'for life.' I have, as everyone who is on DLA, been able to work with it. When I had to quit work due to the stress of it, I got back on due to the two year linking rule (which was tricky in itself) but it was my DLA payments that helped me survive that period, financially. I did not have to do the jobs I did but I got off my bum n tried my hardest. Under Labour it was good to get a job because as well as DLA, I received Disabled Tax Credit n £200 for starting work.
This government are making it difficult for people to work - they know nothing of poverty or how normal people live. They are a bloody joke.
The linking rules n the disabled tax credit were incentives for disabled/'sick' (don't think the word 'sick' appropriate, though it is the word used. I will use disabled because in MY case it is appropriate). Although other people may think that 'disabled p were at an advantage over them but it simply was not so.
These incentives lasted a year or two (tax credits is done by earnings from previous years' earnings). And most people who have been on benefits over a long period lack confidence n have extremely low self esteem n are petrified of starting work encase it goes wrong n they lose their benefit. Now that the linking rules have been abolished the fear is 10x fold.
I hate this government with a passion.
The one thing that a lot of us with disabilities have, DLA, is going to be ripped from us too.
I am DISGUSTED I really am.
The way this government are going - we're going to end up like America!!!!!

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about it. No use making yourself stressed for something that might not affect you and even if it does the way the way things are going it could be years until benefit changes affect everyone.
Initially the whole of the country was supposed to be on Universal Credit by October this year but they still can't sort out computer problems after spending over £100million so nothing is gonna happen quickly so don't make yourself ill with worry.

Upon further reading it looks like that it is Universal Credit that is Bath is in line for so not sure if that affects DLA claimants or not. Sorry for relegation to town status Brimz,my mistake.

It looks like advisers in these areas are already being trained up ready for the change over.

No has nothing to do with D.L.A thanx for looking though mate .

That's good news Brimz,am still trying to learn about the proposed changes etc as it helps me to fight the bastards when I can.

I honestly think that PIP is going to be the hardest of all of the current "New" Benefits to implement . Well allowance cos there is a big dif. between a benefit & Allowance.

What's the difference between benefit n allowance? Do you mean like with DLA u can have it whether you work or not?

Max - I really don't understand theuniversal credit - in terms of what benefits are in it n what benefits are separate. Do you know? Tbh, I'm not as stressed as I would be, as on 12 mg suboxone n mirtazapine.

Evey x

That is one another is that there is no limit on savings with an allowance , i used to ultra clued up on DWP or DHSS then DSS procedure but not so much these days.

Enough to be able to get by but not enough to be able to advise people as i once was . This is due to the recent constant changes

Can someone please help me -I have been on ESA for 4 months now and I am still yet to have a ATOS asessment thus I am stuck on the lower rate of £120 every 2 weeks. Does anyone know why they have left it so long? I cant survive the winter on this money and really want to get the asessment out of the way. Have I fallen through the cracks and been left in yonder or have others had the same kind of thing happen?

Has anyone succesfully recieved housing benifit, while owing the council money. I ask, as I was getting housing but thought it stopped when you stopped signing on. So I stopped signing on, as I got a job. I didnt look at my bank balance for a while and recieved a months rent which I need to pay back. But will be jobless by feb. Will I be refused housing?

well i am fucked with dole ive messed around so much this year not signing on because ive be fucked up on drugs its coming back to haunt me hopefully il have a job in the morning so i can fuck it off altogether for a few months

HouseFever, have the council told you they made an overpayment? I've just been doing some digging and if they know about oveprayments they can take steps to reclaim it, including stopping housing benefit reaching a landlord via other tenants.

This is not legal advice, IANAL, I read it here.
